Imagine if liberals tried to understand the economy at a deeper level than "MOAR FREE MONEYZ LOLOLOLOLOLOL!"

@jedknight4389 Minimum wage was never even as high as $12 an hour if you adjust for inflation. Look at the 2019 Tax Foundation study on purchasing power by state and then tell me cost of manufacturing does not go up when you raise minimum wage.

@umyes4944 Or maybe it was a little something called the Coronavius that ruined Trump's economy?

@umyes4944 Jesus Herbert Walker Christ, there is so much wrong with what you said: 1) Wages can't just all increase. There is a limited amount of money in the economy. Something's got to give. Do you think businesses are going to start digging into their profits to pay an increase in everyone's wages? Megacorporations typically run profit margins of only about 2%, and profits aren't just some money for Warren Buffet and Jeff Bezzos to role around in. If you have a 401K retirement plan, you are living off of corporate profits. 2) Why is it okay to force people to work 40 hours a week to get what they want? Why can't we all just work 0 hours and live in mansions? 3) It increases jobs? Where are you getting this? The most positive sources on the issue shows it has no effect. 4) Look at the 2019 Tax Foundation on Purchasing Power by state. Compare Tennessee and Texas to New York and New Jersey. Also the state with the highest minimum wage is Washington DC, which also has the country's highest homelessness rate. Why should this surprise you in the slightest? If we could artificially impose equality without decreasing the value of everyone's money, we might as well just go outright Communist and pay everyone the same no matter what they do. Hell, pay them the same even if they don't work at all!

@umyes4944 And then the person above that? And the person above that? And the person above that? You can't just increase everyone's wage because there's limited money in the economy. And no you can't just plunder corporate profits either because typical big business runs a profit margin of about 2%. And profits are not just money for Jeff Bezzos and Warren Buffet to role around in. If you have a 401K retirement plan you are living off of corporate profits.

Great idea. Then they'll raise minimum wage to $30 an hour! They will feel marginally more comfortable but the decreased value of the dollar will make everyone else feel drastically more shitty. But that's what you want, right? Equal share of the miseries.

Also our politicians are old people with insurance upwards of $1000 a month, so I imagine it would be much harder for them to live on $15 an hour than a 20 year old.

@alhutchinson3627 Or people who are "inbetween" career jobs and don't want their finances to plummet at lightspeed while they look for a new job.

@satanspit4101 "Shitholes like McDonalds" are the poor man's best friend. Their low wages allow for low prices. Besides, if you work at McDonalds for a year, you're going to get a promotion. If you work at McDonalds from 16 to 35, you're going to get a lot of promotions. You CAN and SHOULD be able to make a career out of working for McDonalds, but not if you are so mindblowingly incompetent that you stay on the bottom wrung of the ladder for 15 years. If people felt comfortable staying on the bottom wrung of the ladder, that would be the collapse of civilization. The substance of civilization is specialization, which is people picking one skill and getting really good at it.

Willful blindness, not ignorance.

Amir Mansa If you expect no trade-offs, it's free to you. Democrats think you can just pull prosperity out of thin air.
2
@JORDAN SMITH Jesus McGod, if an asteroid hit the Earth would you blame that on tax cuts too? African Americans made greater economic gains than any other group under Reagan and black unemployment was under record low under Trump. Those are statistical facts. All you have behind your thoughts is rabid emotionalism.

Studio apartments can go for as little as $250 a month in places like Detroit.

Look at the 2019 Tax Foundation study on purchasing power by state. That should tell you everything you need to know about minimum wage.

Jesus Christ, people like you make me sick. 80% of the world makes $10 or less a day, and that's measured in Purchasing Power Parity. I'd love to see you explain to them why you feel you can't live on $24 an hour. I don't think a barefoot Gautemalan living in a one room tin shack would buy that "cost of living" BS you cop out with.
1
We could "afford" to any level. The question is how would employment, hours, and prices change with that.
1
80% of the planet doesn't even make $10 a day. Your great grandfather couldn't even dream of the standard of living $30,000 a year affords you today. I cannot express the rage I feel at people like you. Humanity and America has come so far and yet at best people like you make this prosperity worth nothing thanks to your bottomless bitterness and ingratitude. At worst your bottomless greed is going to annihilate our prosperity entirely.

@tameone And they're going to pay more by the law of supply and demand.
