Relatively speaking, Africa is poor and unsafe (low GDPs and high homicide rates). But that doesn't mean it doesn't have it's share of wealth and beauty. Luanda in Angola is a gorgeous city.

Poverty in Africa is still a very serious issue. A typical sub-Saharan African nation has a life expectancy of about 60 years old. Also, even if you're smart and capable enough to make a living in one of these wealthy cities in Africa, you can still make a lot more with the same talents in America, so there's still a good reason to move.

"Them"? Why do people like you always take the behavior of 1% of white people and extrapolate it to our entire population?

Afrocentrics always correct Western ignorance, but then take things too far in the opposite direction. It's true a lot of people have a ridiculously exaggerated view of Africa's poverty and backwardsness, but to say it's "a relatively comfortable place to live" is just as intellectually atrocious. Statistics all show otherwise. Poverty and violence are very, very, very serious issues in Africa and greatly decrease the standard of living of the average citizen. Unless by "relatively" you mean "relative to the popular imagination", because if you mean "relative to the rest of the world" that's just plain false. We should be grateful we live in a time where even Earth's poorest nations can be places of great beauty and culture. But these are still Earth's poorest nations.

The best of Africa is better than the worst of America, but it doesn't change the fact that the poorest 10% of Americans live like kings compared to the poorest 10% of Africans. A typical sub-Saharan African country has a life expectancy of about 60 years old. Poverty in Africa takes a serious toll on its people.
