No, it's your mannerism, mindset, and behavior. Our facial muscles develop differently based on native tongue too. Basically you don't walk, talk, think, dress, or sit like a Japanese. That's why most of us won't be able to tell. You know that Amuro Namie is from Okinawa, right?

Perhaps in the US. In Japan, it's most common to just use the country name, and not the ethnicity or race. So we commonly say Half-Russian without specifying the ethnic groups. Or we would say half-Indian, half-Chinese, half-French, half-Brazilian, etc. It's because it's too much information when somebody introduces himself/herself with Half-Russian with Tatar and Ukrainian and Uzbek ancestry, or Half-Brazilian with a European/Indigenous/Black ancestry, or Half-Chinese with both ethnic Mongolian and Tibetan ancestry.

Sorry, nobody in Japan would expect anything from you. If you don't speak Japanese, we won't be expecting or treating you as such. We have a lot of tourists from Asia, North America, and these days Europe. Most of them don't speak Japanese.

It depends on where they grow up. Most Japanese expats will put their kids in overseas Japanese schools. There are more international marriages with Japanese men than women each year, and if they are raised and educated in Japan, they naturally become fluent in Japanese. And because they have Japanese surnames, they'll usually be accepted as Japanese.

It's not because you're half. We genuinely have a crime issue with people from Asian countries. Vietnamese and Chinese make up 60% of all crimes committed by foreign nationals. The rest are usually South Koreans, Filipinos, and Brazilians. They're pretty violent too.

It depends on the upbringing and education. Our Member of Parliament from Okayama ONODA Kimi and Governor of Okinawa TAMAKI Deny is half-American. Murata Renho is half-Taiwanese. Sports Agency Director MUROFUSHI Koji is half-Romanian. The most popular athlete right now is TAKAHASHI Ran who is half-German. One of the most famous actresses in Japan SAWAJIRI Erika was half-French. And we have naturalized citizens who serve as politicians. It's really upbringing, education, and contribution.

@中野内宏美 R U sure? The most famous Yokozuna TAIHO was half-Ukrainian. The Gold medalist MUROFUSHI Koji is half-Romanian. Politicians such as ONODA Kimi (Upper House MP) and TAMAKI Denny (Governor of Okinawa) are half-American. The MIYABE-sisters on the current Japanese Women's Volley Ball national team are half-Nigerian. This may be very difficult to understand but people aren't judged primarily by skin-color or appearances in Japan. They are judged and treated differently by mannerism, educational/vocational background, and social/cultural norms. So even if both of your parents are from Japan and you spent your entire childhood outside of Japan (and even if you have Japanese citizenship)...there is a very high barrier in terms of language, culture, and norms to be accepted into Japanese society. This is why Japanese nationals overseas will make their kids go to Japanese schools, at least on Saturdays. And if you are half-Japanese and don't speak Japanese at all, or descendants of Japanese emigrants, you'll be treated like a foreigner...because you're culturally/socially are from a foreign country. (But people with Japanese ancestry will always get favorable visa treatment.)
