@lil-g4879 They're not second-class citizens, they're not citizens at all. They're called "Zainichi Koreans" in Japan because they're not Japanese citizens. It's strongly discouraged within the Zainichi Korean community to obtain Japanese citizenship, because they believe they're only in Japan temporarily and that they will return to Korean peninsula eventually. They consider themselves Korean war refugees. They have their own schools, credit unions, and businesses. The real problem is they don't want to return to the Korean peninsula (even though it's been safe for the past half century) nor do they wish to become Japanese citizens. Because of their choices, they've become outcasts in Japan, South Korea, and North Korea. Our citizenship law is fairly simple. Either you're Japanese citizen or you're not. They can go through the naturalization if they wish to become Japanese.

It depends on the person more so than nationality. Japanese people will judge you by social class, education, mannerism, or civility. In reality, some of the Brazilians in Japan have neck/arm tattoos like gangs, they walk and talk and dress like narcos, and are often arrested for car-jacking, looting, shoplifting, drugs, murder etc. At the same time, there are many educated and cultured Nikkei-Brazilian bankers, doctors, professors, lawyers, IT engineers, musicians, school teachers, etc. The latter group will be appreciated and treated with respect in Japan. The former will be treated with disgust and disgrace.

That's actually a very humane justice system. In Japan we don't even allow our prisoners to attend family funerals, as it is punishment and forced isolation from society. But they will often will be released earlier than prison sentence on good behavior. It's our strong belief that prison has to be a form of deterrence.

Please let all your Japanese Descendant friends who want to come to Japan to absorb as much Japanese language/culture before they are arrive in Japan. We have a massive skill shortage in IT, hospitality/tourism, medicine/health-care, logistics/transportation ...and if they're fluent in Japanese language and are skilled professionally, they'll be making a lot of money. Sadly, too many Nikkei-Brazilians end up in entry-level positions in factories because they lack language, education, or professional skills.
