  2. I'm simply curious. Indian people visiting your school don't eat fish/chicken/pork at all? They can't all be vegetarian/vegan, right? I always though Chicken Tandoori was Indian cuisine...

  3. You guys get offended way too easily. She was referring to the prevalent stereotype in Japan about Indians. Many of the Indians who are allowed to work in Japan have Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math backgrounds and are frequently employed in IT, Finance, and Engineering firms. She was only saying that contrary to popular perception in Japan, not all Indians are like that. I don't think she meant that all educated Indians are living abroad or as an insult to the country of India. (But I do remember hearing something about many Tech CEOs and MBA professors in the US also have Indian origins.)

  4. I would add religion and history to your list. Japanese culture and Japanese religion are so old and intertwined, nobody knows whether culture stems from religious practice and perspectives, or if Japanese culture was simply crystallized into Japanese religion. Either way, it dictates how Japanese people behave, interact, think, or even how society is organized. This cultural barrier is very difficult to overcome for some foreign-nationals, including those from neighboring countries, yet for others it's almost instinctive and adjust and adapt without any effort. They feel relaxed and comfortable in Japan like a native. I suspect the lady working in IT is one of those who liked tranquility and organization of Japan. Her mannerism, speech, and dress does match Japanese cultural preference.

  5.  @PUNSHIBAROT  Thanks for the context. I really don't know much about regional differences within India, so I was surprised to hear that an entire school can be vegetarian/vegan. Is it a religious rule, or is it a ethnic-cultural thing? Buddhist monks in Japan were traditionally Vegetarian too, and we do have SHOUJIN-RYORI. But I think only real monks practice it now.
