When in Rome...

Honestly, things said in this video are so rudimentary to us, even a kid in kindergarten understands. If these "rules" are too difficult or too alien for you to comprehend, I guarantee you Japan is not the place for you. The people being interviewed won't say it because their too polite, but deep down they really hate people who can't follow even the basic social rules of Japan. And this hatred and disgust is directed to all people, not just foreigners.

Just do as the locals do in any city or country.

It's not our job to change for the sake of foreigners. And some foreigners in Japan are not really high on the socio-economic scale in their home countries. Perceptions and stereotypes are based on decades if not centuries of collective experiences. Unfortunately, people of different nationalities and ethnicities will be treated according to previous experiences. For instance, in the past there were so many sex crimes by US military we had to set up brothels for them. And most of the violent crimes committed by US military in Japan were by black and brown males. Koreans, Chinese, and Vietnamese are very active in organized crime and the gang-related businesses. It's not rocket science that we treat them differently from rest of the pack. We obviously wouldn't be treating a musician from Vienna, a ballerina from Ukraine, or a researcher from the UK in the same light. Cultured, educated, and sophisticated people are treated differently.

This is my personal impression. If you live in less urban areas in any country, people tend to be more talkative and friendly. Shyness is not necessarily the reason why people don't talk to strangers in Tokyo. It's more like we're so consumed with ourselves we really not that interested in other people.

The question was what should foreigners not do in Japan. All the answers were common sense in Japan.

If you go to any fancy restaurant in most cities around the world, the waiter/waitress will take to your seats. I thought it was common sense.

Hiroshima is special. The good people were killed.

In Kansai region, everyone stands on the right side. This interview, I assume, was conducted in Tokyo/Kanto region.

Tourists are fine. We barely encounter them in our daily lives.

It's pretty bad in certain areas with foreigners. Chinese and Koreans have terrible manners, there is a South Asian drug dealer in my neighborhood park.
