  1. EU has only existed since early 1990s. Before that it was a trade agreement. The first time EU was tested by lethal force, their reaction was appeasement of Putin. He attacked, because he knew EU would do nothing and he thought USA would also turn a blind eye. EU has reluctantly backed Ukraine because USA and UK embarrassed them into action.

  2. EU cannot handle Ukraine. The costs of rebuilding will be enormous and they are far too bureaucratic to get the job done. Then there’s Ukraine agriculture which would double the size of the EU agriculture at a stroke. The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) would collapse over night.
