  1. 60% of Russian people want to ignore the war. 20% wang it stopped and a noisy 20% want even more brutality and ethnic cleansing. Putin is surrounded by yes men. When he goes down, they’ll go down with him. They’ll all do everything they can to cling on to power.

  2. Russia will eventually get thrown out but the war will continue with missiles fired at civilian infrastructure, schools, hospitals and housing. Ukraine will need to maintain powerful anti aircraft systems for years to come.

  3. If Ukraine cuts Russian forces in two and takes Crimea they will for sure take Kherson as well. The flash bang will seriously boost western support. Then Ukraine can take Zaporisia and finally Donbas. If Ukraine tries to take Donbas first (1) it’s tough because there are 10 years of fortifications (2) The West will get bored and support for taking the south will decline. Crimea won’t get a look-in. They have to hit hard and fast to cut off Russians in Kherson and keep going into Crimea and Zaporisia.

  4. Putin has the resources for a long war of attrition. Ukraine therefore has to hit very hard and very effectively at their counter attack. If it fizzles out, western support will dry up and over (a long) time, Putin will win.
