  1. I have been learning recently, in much greater detail, about the period of the Napoleonic wars and the Congress of Vienna. I hate hyperbole, but periods such as these decide the next century. Whether it is the perception of the "West" (freedom/democracy), global respect for rule of law, Asian-Anglo relations, the fate of 50 million Ukrainians, the fate of poor/uneducated Russian men sent to a war they had no choice in starting, the decisions surrounding NATO (the strongest military alliance in history and single handedly deterring nations from offensive operations for territory/ignoring rule of law).... The West must, must win this conflict decisively. This is the moment to show the world that rule of law, the fate of small nations and the inherent belief of Western values are not only here to stay but will determine the future of humanity

  2.  @bratbrata4974  Thanks I'm unfamiliar. Will do. I realized a few years ago that I knew basically nothing about history. Now that I am done learning about the big stuff (US history, WW1, WW2, Alexander the Great, Rome, etc) I feel comfortable moving into more niche periods.

  3. To hate war is to hate death as both define our human condition. I fully agree with you; let's win to ensure the generations alive today watching know what the West is all about

  5.  @bratbrata4974  Definitely. My roots trace back to England in the 17th century, Ireland in the 19th century and a mix of others. I figure if I am to learn why the world is as it is, the best place to start is with the history of my own country. I will then probably move onto European history. Those two subjects, with reading around an hour a day, will take me years to get through. Much love to our friends in Poland; I worked with some great Polish immigrants up in the Cleveland, Ohio area. We had a very similar sense of humor
