  3. It might be common sense for engineers, but not so for us lay guys. Plus, it gives us an idea of the considerations a satisfactory material must go through to be robust.

  5. It seems to me that shear forces disintegrating the glue layers is somewhat intuitive, even without hindsight. Did he feel the same, and this explains the strain gauging? And nobody knows the glue mfg and type? That’s crazy - so it could be Elmer’s white glue… That just seems like something an engineer would have documented. Thoroughly.

  6. Was just gonna suggest a titanium hoop in the middle, internal to the cylinder? Maybe a thickness of 4-6” to get an effective wedge attribute? I have no idea what I’m talking about, just a guess.

  11. To OP, that’s what I assumed as well. I also put a question out asking if an additional hoop on the ID of the cylinder would have helped - but now I’d like to see a model of your initial assumption.
