  9.  @Kwazzaaap  GPL is ... probably part of the future of open source. Its legality certainly is. The future of open source however does not depend on the linux kernel. Valve forking linux wouldn't be "handing" anything over, as Linus Torvalds wouldn't lose anything. Funny thing, copying isn't stealing either. Said for-profit monopoly isn't a faceless, souless, mindless corporation, but a company run by a horrible capitalist named Gabe Newell, and he's a person, just like you and Linus, and buys things with currency, just like me and you. Cept his things are better. So yeah, it'd be interesting to see what Gabe would do with a still-open-source fork, vs other forks, especially given the Valve attitude toward FOSS. I remember they made an app for the Steam Controller so you could configure and use it without Steam. I believe it was open source as well.
