The issue with the Tories isn't that they genuinely buy into the net zero agenda (except for some very stupid ones) it's that they're mostly amoral social climbers just like most politicians, so they go along with the green agenda because they're told "that's the high-status / career protecting / non risky thing to do". Fundamentally they aren't "leaders", they're managerialists who take their lead from a technocratic bureaucracy, media and cultural elite that has bought into this agenda. The average Tory politician cares more about what the Guardian thinks of him than he does his own voters. If we had a real Tory leader it would be a huge open goal to say "F**K NET ZERO, it doesn't work, it will make ordinary people poorer for no reason, I'm on the side of real economic development, not enriching a few globalist renwable energy businessmen and their hangers on in the media, academia and their climate zealot footsoldiers."
