I wish these machines were affordable enough for average laboratories! I wish some tabletop setup was affordable enough to set up in your garage. Sad that the world has become to small and too big at the same time. Too small as there's far less in it, too big as everything is out of reach.

Or SMIC in China.

@100c0c There was a news that some Chinese company is working on XFEL as EUV source. Since China has XFEL fascility already, the mirror assembly is the main thing they are missing. For ASML adopting this - firstly, they don't need it. Secondly, a lot of things both upstream and downstream has to change. Given they are still recouping EUV r&d money, ASML-Karl Zeiss can't lay their had on this tech for another 5 yrs at least. And still it's not clear if it's worth their effort. But if this actually has any potential, China is already having to build everything from ground up. They might try it, instead of trying to reinvent the DUV wheel. Just as they did in their car sector.

@Beregorn88 But if the light is coming from XFEL, then the beam will come horizontally, isn't? Also, one 45 degree mirror can make it verticle.

But why doesn't it go through the hole in the first go shown in 10:43?

The amount of rework this will need, I think is only possible for China - as they has both fund and the necessity. And adopting/working on new design is always better than reinventing the wheel, as in later case, you'll always stay behind.
