Yep---when they died,' musical theater ' died ! There were some exceptions, sure enough, 'Westside Story', 'Oliver', ' My Fair Lady'. spring to mind. What mainly sets them apart, from modern offerings, is that virtually EVERY song was memorable, and of the highest quality, the lyrics carried the dialogue along. No infill what so ever. People could and would, sing them on the way home, and for weeks after. Everyone who was anyone, wanted to record those songs. What's more, we still love then after all those decades. As for ''musicals '' today ? your lucky if there is just ONE memorable song. Instead, we get mass chorouses repeating a boring souless shouty noise.

Well they sure bigged this guy up, and I suppose he's ok, but not a great tenor, I've heard much better in recent years. In my opinion, he has far too much vibrato in his voice, and at times, he sounded forced and loosing tone. As someone commented here, Opera singers are simply NOT suitable for popular musical stage show tunes. They don't soften notes and give voice to emotions. My alltime favourite male lead singer was the great, the incomparable, Gordon MaCrae, a voice of melting chocolate.
