Yep---when they died,' musical theater ' died ! There were some exceptions, sure enough, 'Westside Story', 'Oliver', ' My Fair Lady'. spring to mind. What mainly sets them apart, from modern offerings, is that virtually EVERY song was memorable, and of the highest quality, the lyrics carried the dialogue along. No infill what so ever. People could and would, sing them on the way home, and for weeks after. Everyone who was anyone, wanted to record those songs. What's more, we still love then after all those decades. As for ''musicals '' today ? your lucky if there is just ONE memorable song. Instead, we get mass chorouses repeating a boring souless shouty noise.
