I’m not a Republican and was never a big Trump fan. But Trump has a judicial precedent on his side in a case where a federal judge ruled in favor of President Clinton (in Judicial Watch, Inc. v. Nat'l Archives & Records Admin.) that he did not have to turn over material he deemed personal. It said the national archivist “…does not have the authority to designate materials as ‘Presidential records.’” Judge AMY BERMAN JACKSON further stated that under the statutory scheme established by the Presidential Records Act, *the decision to segregate personal materials from Presidential records is made by the President, during the President's term and in his sole discretion.”
