The Car Care Nut

If you hear it in the rear you can lift up the car and spin the tire, also can feel if the wheel is loose if the bearing is getting that bad. Same for the front, check for looseness and if bad enough you may be able to hear it. For fronts I also like to steer left and right to load the bearings... if it gets louder steering right, it's the left bearing, louder steering left it's the right bearing.

@OutsideTheTargetDemographic Another tip is that after a 15+ minute highway drive hold your hand on the center of the wheels and compare the heat between left rear and right rear wheels. Using that method and steering left and right I pinpointed a bad RR wheel bearing in my brother's Subaru, it was slightly warm after a drive and the left rear cool.

@OutsideTheTargetDemographic yes, the center of the wheel itself where the lug nuts are, not the brake rotor.
