Tell you what Macron, secure YOUR OWN borders, and these people would not be reaching the coast. Apparently you don't like leaders communicating by tweets, but you're fine doing it bynews conference. Moreover, the law CLEARLY states that these migrants should have to stay in the first country they arrive in. The fact that they bypassed France's borders on not one but TWO occasions is down to France.

@dekmackie What can ANY non-superpower country do to make another country act? Britain has precisely as much power as France - which is diplomacy, sanctions, international courts, and if things ever became desperate, a medium sized military and a nuclear arsenal. Exactly as France does. Even the largest superpower on the planet has discovered time and again that it's not THAT easy to impose your will on other nations if they are willing to fight back. They've just suffered defeat in the longest war in US history, and got their asses kicked in Vietnam. France has short-term leverage over Britain, but the more they apply it, the weaker it becomes as Britain finds ways to bypass them. Extremely stupid short-term thinking by both nations. The really stupid thing is, if we simply intercepted these migrants midway across the channel and turned them back, we wouldn't even be HAVING this debate. It is FRANCE that is breaking its international obligations not Britain. That said, if Britain is serious about resolving this issue, it WOULD go a long way if we contributed to the cost of patrolling France's coastal border.

@dekmackie Tell that to the companies we imported 53 billion from in September. Tell that to the financial companies MOVING to Britain. Tell that to the new partners we are making. Tell that to the countries that attended three global conferences we just hosted. Nobody claims that Britain is head of the global table, and that's just fine by me. When the world wants to throw the lives of its young men away in the next pointless conflict, I'll be happy if we sit out. But to claim that nobody cares what Britain has to say is facile on not backed up by reality. I know you're trying to be an edgelord, but frankly, you're only embarrassing yourself. Sit down and shut up kid.

This is like a game of British Bulldog, except Britain rewards the migrants with welfare and accommodation if they can dodge border patrol. That's why they keep trying.
