  1. Russia is no threat? How naive are you? Russia has more nukes than America, is lead by a massively corrupt, emotionally insecure and volatile former KGB agent who has billions stashed in foreign bank accounts. They routinely imprison the opposition, murder journalists and have invaded sovereign nations. I agree with your assessment of the US, Saudi and Israel, but to dismiss Russia is exceedingly unwise.

  2. What do you expect? If you spy on a sovereign nation, you are essentially committing non-military warfare on them, and if a spy defects, it is the same in the other direction. I'm just surprised at the crudeness of the attack. If it was me trying to prevent counter spying, I'd kidnap them at night, murder them and dissolve the bodies in acid. No bodies, no forensic traces. This seems more like a way of sending a message to other would-be defectors.
