Comments by "Mat Broomfield" (@matbroomfield) on "More than 6 million workers being paid by the taxpayer under government's furlough scheme" video.
"The taxpayer". Themselves you mean. Most of these people paid MANY times more into the system than they will draw out in 3 months.

@paxundpeace9970 Perhaps if we stopped pissing it away giving billions to corporations in unneeded tax breaks, and starting needless wars, and bailing out banks that gambled our money away, we'd have the money.

@paxundpeace9970 I never said they did, but a taxpayer pays as much in 9 months as they are now receiving back in 3. The government is still massively in credit over a single year..

@dominictomlin9385 You've earned that right dozens of times over Dominic, paricularly as their ineptitude has probably harmed your restaurant for years to come (although a restaurant is the first place I'LL be going when this is over.)

@resisthouse Totally! :-)

@nothereandthereanywhere So your entire argument amounts to "My job is not in danger - don't care about the people whose companies have had to close because I still have to go to work." I've well aware of the many bullshit things my taxes go on. THe average person pays taxes for 50 years, and are MORE than entitled to receive 1 year of that back directly in a time of need - ESPECIALLY as the government's gross incompettence is part of the reason their careers are o hold or in permanent jeopardy.

@nothereandthereanywhere My response made perfect sense. You said "you pay tax for many services, not only to get paid back". You were making the clear suggestion that paying taxes does not entitle you to the benefits of those taxes in emergencies. You further hammered home this point by arguing "the statement that others pay those on furlough is correct". This is an incoherrent position. If your position is that you cannot assign a percentage of my taxes towards furlough pay because taxes go on many things, likewise, YOU cannot then claim that the tax the still working people pay, pays for the furloughed people. In fact, I would say it's easy to prove the opposite as their furlough money comes from taxes ALREADY paid! You are not being compassionate by "allowing" that they should be paid - you are merely acknowledging that the government's primary duty is to ensure the prosperous and safe running of society.

@nothereandthereanywhere Actually I paid my tax just yesterday, and I'm NOT furloughed - I simply lost lots of money which is really hard and complicated to try to claim some of because I'm self employed in a business with massively variable income. But ALL taxes are paid for the good of society and its members - it literally has no other legitimate purpose. Saying that tax does not have my name on it is completely specious. There's not a policemanwith my name on either, but if I break into your house, you'll expect one to be allocated to me for as long as he is needed. And yes, I recognise your charitable intent towards those who need it, but this is NOT charity. We ALL more than earned it. It's clear to me that you are a nice compliant tax drone who sees himself as nothing but a provider of income to the government without ever asking "Why am I paying this, and what do I get back?" Every hive needs workers who simply slave their lives away and never ask why. I'm sure the government is grateful for such a compliant little wage slave.

@nothereandthereanywhere You never EXPLICITLY used the word "charity" but your constant narrative has been that people are not entiitled to this money. I quote "You pay tax for many services, not only to get paid back, when you get unemployed." If they are not entitled, then by definition, it's charity. Inductive reasoning.
