Technically the ships weren't As radioactive immediately after the explosion as they were later, as the USN inadvertently hosed them down with heavily radioactive seawater afterward, making it much worse. The armoured ships would have afforded the best blast and radiation protection to a human crew, though CBRN protection measures didn't exist to be fitted at this point, so how much a fully CBRN equipped Capital Ship would've protected the crew is still a matter of conjecture.

^ Sorry, I don't speak grammatically bereft, miandering gibberish.

^ Well that was a cliched response. Good job discrediting yourself XD.

Am I the only one whom pronounced this ship's name - when I first saw her in a book - "Ark'n'Sarse"?. (alternatively: "Ark'n'Sass") Rather like Leicester or almost anywhere in Wales, it is perhaps not the most obvious word to pronounce, when one's hitherto never heard of it.

@novatopaz9880 All good points. How more modern [for the time] ships would've performed remains an interesting thought experiment, especially those refitted postwar precisely to offer some protection from radioactive fallout.
