It's puzzling indeed. I presume they would find some of the holes and being able to look in them with "cable cameras". I can also believe someone who lost orientation when it turns dark may try seek a place to protect oneself from the cold, or the heat during daytime, and perhaps by that are difficult to find if they die. But after some time animals would spread out remains, clothes and such, wouldn't they? I saw a video of a bushman that told that you should always carry a lighter with you even if not planning to go for long in the wild. It may help you being noticed, and a small fire usually keep wildlife who may see a tired human as dinner, at some distance.

@booboomagoo1305 I saw an episode a couple of years ago about a guy who went to camp in Alaska, a guy not completely stable because he tought he could connect on a deeper level with grizzlybears. He loved grizzlybears. Eventually his relatives were concerned when it went unusual long time without him getting in touch. Eventually the bears had probably killed him yet still they found pieces of clothes, his watch, shoes etc even if the items were spread about over some area.

@_nick_d Yeah, I remember that. Tragic story, there was some videoclips the guy had taken, unfortunately he didn't seem all that mentally well. It's not a good thing to get wild predatory animals that normally shy away from people to try and get them used to close human prescence.

@Brootis Probably, it was a long time since I saw it and forgot the name of the guy. But they found more than one trace after him though, as opposed to those who want to explain the complete lack of traces or remains with the suggestion that they may have been taken by wild animals.
