But then I realized much of Sea Shepherds stories were basically non factual propaganda constructed to lure money out of peoples pockets Yes, these islanders do kill and eat whales. Little did I and many of my friends know about the islanders except from what Sea Shepherd told me, but after a friend of mine from Belgium had been on the islands as a SS volunteer I was told that SO much of the stories Sea Shepherd had told him and us was basically few facts blended with a ton of lies in order to demonize these islanders. He quickly left Sea Shepherd and I have not given them a dime ever since I am glad a documentary like this finally is done, showing both sides, and for the first time showing the world that the islanders are not the crazy evil maniacs Sea Shepherds wants people to believe. I will never ever trust a word Sea Shepherd says again I will still support organizations like Amnesty and Greenpeace whom I find way more credible.

  29. Unlike many parts of the industrialize world, the kids on the Faroe Islands, like most kids in the Nordic countries, are well informed and understand well the origin of their food. SO yes, the kids knew perfectly well the correlation between baby whales, whales and food. A lot what happens in this world, especially related to food and food related pollution and mistreatment of animals comes from us city in the industrialized world being ill informed about the origin of our very own food and its effect on the enviroment. They are actually among the best educated society in world, with the highest number of publishing of books, newspapers, magazines per capita, highest educational level per capita, and they have the world highest or 2nd highest number of Nobel prizes in the world compared to its inhabitants size. I would for sure not categorize them as being slow. They are also among the healthiest society in the world with record low number of heart diseases in the western world (highly linked to their diet) and among the longest life expectancy in the world.

  36. My mistake, I realized my research was based on Sea Shepherd articles and we all know they are not trustworthy. After some research I found out that around 20 to 35 % of their annual consumption of meat comes from these non endangered pilot whales. Meaning it is not a luxary food for them, but a vital source of free food for the locals that they highly appreciate. Having these local resources helps the islanders be less dependent on having to import all food from abroad, and that helps the local household economy as imported food on those islands is among the most expensive food in the world. The man made toxins in the ocean and its animals is not a thing caused by these locals, but something the locals for decades have tried to make the rest of the world aware of and get us in the industrialized world to stop killing the oceans and their food with our industrialized pollution in the oceans. The Nordic view on life in the Faroe Islands harmonises well in todays view of life in the Nordic, where living of local organic resources that all lived a good life is the way of the future. That hippi attitude was preached in the Nordic in the 1970s and still thrives in the Nordic countries, including the islands. The problem seems more the large number of people coming from cultures where they lack the understanding of the origin of their very own food. Most US and UK citizens are clueless and it does not help that kids are not thought about the origin of food in their school and news stories about food factories and slaughtering methods is not followed by images and videos actually showing the animals being slaughtered.
