Gorbachev was a fool to have simultaneously embarked upon perestroika and glasnost even though he had a successful chinese model to copy from; china kept its communist political framework intact while spearheading with economic liberalisation and thus was able to withstand the shocks and tremors that emanated from its adventure with capitalism. Thanks to Gorbachev’s short sightedness today all the splinter states which were part of the USSR including russia are experiencing a pervert version of capitalism infested with oligarchs and democracy limited only to conducting of heavily rigged elections …..
