Savarkar should be glorified more for his scientific temper and social reforms rather than for his 8 letters seeking clemency and for receiving hefty pension from the British post his release from imprisonment

Had EVM been invented in the early fifties than the congress wouldn’t had indulged in minority appeasement

@sumedhd90 : Bhagat singh and his likes did not take any pension from British. If you are in know of any ‘freedom fighter’ who willingly took pension from his tormentors (Britishers ) than please enlighten us. What Savarkar received as pension of Rs 60/- is the today’s equivalent of over Rs 1,00,000/- , so by what standard this is not a hefty sum? Post Savarkar’s release from prison it was noticed that he did not fight against the British but instead supported the Brits much to the chagrin of those who were engaged in opposing British rule. This shows that the pension amount was loaded with a caveat and what was the caveat is anybody’s guess. Interestingly the caste-lobby which has been trying their best to confer the title of freedom fighter on Savarkar is absolutely mum when it comes to acknowledging the sacrifices of so many real freedom fighters who preferred to perish in the jail rather than beg for clemency and also did not accept any pension. Isn’t it sad that Indians can’t think beyond their castes even when it comes to conferring of respect and credit on the martyrs…….

@ananth224 : and one such ‘beasts’ while being the judge of Bombay high court had married a 13 year old child …
1
@ananth224 : there were many instances where 30 plus males marrying 13 years females and Justice Mahadeo Govind Ranade was the ‘shining’ example of this exploitative marriages …
1
@clinkclinkclink1476 : The example of Ranade is given only to inform that child marriages were more rampant in Hindu society so much so that even social reformers and highly qualified leaders like Ranade had to ‘succumb’ to that privilege….so it’s pointless blaming only Islam for atrocities against women folks when Vedic bammanism was also steeped in all sorts of regressive social practices ….
1
@rohandev1444 : don’t know how much of this is true …..but polygamy amongst Muslims it is said is because of giving honour to those who were widowed in the wars….every social practices has some compelling reason at that time but gradually it’s made into a norm by those who benefit from it……the Indian Muslims have no reason to follow what was essentially an Arab phenomenon….uniform civil code is the only solution because if Muslims from Goa are happy with it in Goa than why they wouldn’t be in rest of India. An ordinary Muslim will prefer the following fives called food, education, health, prosperity and shelter instead of five wives ….
1
@rohandev1444 : before independence even Hindus were allowed the ‘luxury’ of not only child marriage but even polygamy. In Islam polygamy was encouraged to accord respect to those who got widowed due to war, but no such reason is found in Hindu scriptures. So it seems polygamy in Hindus was perpetrated by the bammanical patriarchy ….

@sumedhd90 : Had Bhagat Singh been alived he wouldn’t hd taken any kind of gratia from anybody leave alone the British. Amongst the hundreds of those FF who were undergoing jail term at the Andamans it were only the 2 Savarkar bros and one Ghosh from Bengal applied for clemency several times while the rest of the FF preferred martyrdom. So instead of conferring Bharat Ratna on those martyrs why there’s so much clamour to bestow that ‘honour’ on Savarkar alone while no word is said about Bhagat Singh by the same casteist lobby …..
1
@sumedhd90 ; was Savarkar the only one who had to face economic deprivation and social boycott ??? ……Rs 60/- than was the equivalent of Rs 1,00,000/- of today’s …so is that a small amount …
1
@sumedhd90 Earlier the Savarkar wadis used to vehemently deny that Savarkar received British pension, but now when evidences have started coming out they are justifying it on grounds not acceptable . Nowhere in the world are FF treated with kid gloves so when some one takes a decision to become one the repercussions are already known. I personally support his quest for scientific temper and social reforms but equating him with the martyrs (who were more than 150 in the Andaman jail) is simply far fetched ….
1
@sumedhd90 : please refer to the inflation trend since the 1940s….
1
@sumedhd90 : in a communication with the District collector through whom Savarkar had petitioned for hike in pension, the Collector refused to entertain and informed Savarkar that his pension was even more than the salary received by the collector….so you can imagine how hefty it was ….

@sumedhd90 : Well the only ‘revolutionaries’ Savarkar was able to really influence were the Nathuram’s and we all know how much they fought against the British. Besides it would be interesting to know whether there was any other revolutionary anywhere in the world who was called a freedom fighter despite pleading for clemency and accepting pension from the very powers he fought against. All this series of discourses on Savarkar and Goeble-lisation of history - through such agenda-driven ‘historians’ - to lionise a lamb is because of the desperate effort of the New-India-wadis to create a bamman mascot who could be used to replace Gandhi and now that they are in power success is guaranteed.

@SaiPavanKumar19 : letters don’t lie !
1
@parassharma7800 : armed revolution of the Germans caused our freedom…
1
@AmanPandey-pf7rq : ur right that Gandhi supported British war efforts but that was when the Brits assured gandhi of freedom …..Savarkar was also a fierce freedom fighter but only before he was jailed. Honouring Savarkar with the title of freedom fighter alongside the likes of Bhagat singh n those who preferred martyrdom to mercy is highly unjustified….The reason why the hindutva wadis r desperately trying vainly to project Savarkar as a freedom fighter of the caliber parallel to the likes of Bhagat singh is because they need an bamman icon to replace gandhi in their ‘new India’ project …Gandhi was always hated by the bamman lobby for making freedom struggle all inclusive hence 3 more attempts were made to eliminate gandhi before finally assassinating him in 1947 ….

@sharathmandyam6103 : Nobody is taking away Sardar patels contribution in annexing independent states to the union of India, but there’s a difference in what Sardar did n Gandhi; Sardar got India geographically united and Gandhi got Indians mentally united despite of diversity in religion, language and castes …..the freedom movement before gandhi was restricted to those castes who thought freedom is only for them and the rest will continue to be enslaved by them, whereas it was only when Gandhi took the cudgels of freedom fight he ensured that the oppressed bahujan castes also participated in the movement. Amongst those who did not pleaded for clemency and preferred to go to the gallows while imprisoned by the British for revolting majority were Muslims and from Bahujans castes and this was only because of their faith in gandhis leadership……This is so far as the Old India is concerned ….the torchbearers for New India are free to rewrite history as it wld suit them…..

@sharathmandyam6103 : Partition is indeed Gandhis biggest failure although he tried his very best to prevent partition. Actually It was the Hindu Mahasabha who first coined the idea of partitioning India on communal lines and they even fought elections on this issue against the congress. It would be interesting to know that although the Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim league fought elections separately, post elections they even formed coalition government to keep congress out, isn’t this an indication as to who was for and against partition. After partition it was noticed that the rss & muslim league exchanged their offices amongst themselves. So the real culprits were the Mahasabha & League but the blame was put solely on Gandhi even as the Iron man & Nehru failed to prevent partition.
1
@sharathmandyam6103 : Before gandhi sat on dharna to protest against the killings and mayhem post partition he had single handedly brought the bloody navkhali riots to a stop and that required sheer guts…can u name any such leader before or after gandhi who commanded so much confidence from ppl who were communally instigated to antagonise each other ….
1
@sharathmandyam6103 : Gandhi never said he is god & he was the most self critical leader at that time ….pls read his ‘my experiments with truth’ to know how much he tested himself and accepted that he had more failures than others …just contrast this with those who were busy in self-glorification
1
@sharathmandyam6103 : he was made into god just to obtain ppl support for the freedom movement because in India it’s not just the illiterate but even highly qualified ppl have weaknesses for godmen….Gandhi knew that it wasn’t possible to obtain freedom through violence hence he had to resort to nonviolent means and its here where his views sometimes appear self-contradictory….but Gandhi was also a shrewd politician who could manage support even from factions whose interests even though were diametrically opposed to each but supported gandhi in his quest for freedom. The test of gandhis neutrality lies in the fact that he has had been hated by the hardliners from both Hindu and Muslim community.
1
@sharathmandyam6103 : the right wing casteist Hindus have always blamed gandhi for partition ….they even spread the canard that Gandhi was killed because he sat on fast to compel India to pay Pakistan Rs 56 crore , when actually Gandhi was on fast to protest against communal riots ….Partition was everybody’s failure , but on hindsight it was a big relief considering the bad blood that’s been generated between Hindus n Muslims by the politicians….
1
@sharathmandyam6103 : yes, and so it’s obvious that he never craved for godlike status …only his followers failed him to an extent …..
