It's NOT "Uk bashing...and nobody is saying, that the UK can't get back in" It's rather simple facts, like =
the UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment = a national debt of max 55 %, the UKs national debt is at 101,2 % recently.
The UK has to apply for EU membership by fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if NONE of the EU27 member states vetos the UK joining the EU, only then the UK/GB would receive the status as a "candidate for EU membership", and then the 35 chapters have to be fulfilled and implemented properly (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if not done properly, joining process stops instantly.
Estimated time needed for joining the EU are minimum 15+ years AFTER fullfilling the Copenhagen Criteria, as stated by various EUs negotiators/spokesmen various times since years, they know due to experience of other countries joining process.
It's mandatory for ALL NEW EU member states, to join the Schengen area and adapt the €/Euro, as soon as the new EU member state has a stabile enough economy.
No exceptions, no cherry picking, no fast track, no opt outs for any country in the world, not even for Ukraine being at war, as stated by various EUs negotiators/spokesmen various times since years.
The EUs joining criteria =

The UK joining the EU again will go like that:
the UK has to apply for EU membership by fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if none of the EU27 member states vetos the UK/GB joining the EU again, only then the UK/GB would receive the status as a "candidate for EU membership", and then the 35 chapters (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission) have to be fulfilled/implemented properly, which could take decades.
No exceptions, no cherry picking, no fast track, no opt outs, as stated by various EU spokesmen recently.
It's mandatory for ALL NEW EU member states, to join the Schengen area and adapt the €/Euro, as soon as the new EU member state has a stabile enough economy.
Estimated time needed for a country, joining the EU, about 15ish years, AFTER fullfilling the Copenhagen Criteria...as stated by various EU spokesmen/negotiators, due to experience of other countries "joining process".
The UK is moving away from fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria recently...
Before any of this might happen, it would be urgently needed education about the EU, how it works and what it's for, that there is a Parliament with its democratic elected MEPs (with PR), working on behalf of the democratic elected EU27 member states Gvts and their 450ish million citizens, otherwise the UKs electorate might vote "leave" again at the following GE, and the EU27 definetely wouldn't want a "Brexit 2.0 " again.

@alpey8487
Germany has 20 US nukes on its territory, and has an agreement with the US, to "use" those/in cooperation with the US Gvt, this is why the German air force has bought 35 F-35 fighting jets, because they are "nuke ready".... In case you forgot, Germany still has military restrictions due to WWII, same goes for Austria...
But, as we're living in 2023, the Nato troops are working/cooperating together smoother then ever... as seen in the last two Nato maneuvers earlier this year ="Nato air defender 2023" and "Nato northern coast 2023"
Btw, the Nato partners UK and Germany are doing the air policing at the Baltics since 2014, always with a British/German cockpit crew 😊

Yes.
The UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment...
Instead the EUs Commission started an infringement procedure against the UK recently, as the UK hasn't been implementing properly any of the deals, it signed with the EU27...
Starmer got informed about that subject, when visiting the EU27..
Some weeks ago the EUs Commission stated/analogous "that the EU is very happy with the TCA, that it's very balanced for BOTH sides, and that the Commission is taking care of further implementation of the TCA at the REVIEW coming up".
January this year the "passporting" went back into the EU27.
June 2025 the "Euroclearing" will be back in the EU27, then Brexit is complete, as the transition period of FOM for capital ends June 2025.
That will be a huge loss for the City of London, as those financial services are making up about one third of worlds market for clearing services = a value of £ 260 trillion per year...
Estimated time needed for joining the EU are minimum 15+ years AFTER fullfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST..
Every EU member state can leave the EU27 on its own free will, but it's up to the EU27 only, to decide, which country can join the EU and when..
I'm very sorry for all of you over there, which didn't want this, not though for those ones, which voted for it...
All the best with greetings from the EU27 👋

Well, doesn't really come across like that, when "British people" are still demanding, to "join the EUs SM asap, a bit of FOM included"...
Right now the UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership.
Joining the EUs SM/EEA/CU is available for EU and EFTA member states ONLY, not though for 3rd countries !!
According to article 126 of the EEA Agreement = SPECIFIES that membership is open to member states either of the EU and or EFTA member states ONLY.
EEA = EUs SM
NOT negotiatable !!
Norway and Iceland/EFTA, are stating since years, that they'll veto the UK joining EFTA, because they don't want a "trouble maker in their club".
Only option available for the UK is to apply for EU membership by fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST.
Estimated time needed for joining the EU are minimum 15+ years AFTER fullfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST.
Every EU member state can leave the EU27 on its own free will, but it's up to the EU27 only, to decide, which country can join the EU and when.

Estimated time needed for joining the EU again, about 15ish years, as the EUs negotiators/spokesmen stated, they know due to experience of other countries joining process...
Notice: various countries with the status as a "candidate for EU membership" are stuck at exactly that, because they haven't implemented the 35 chapters... therefor are still no EU member states...
Just saying, because the UK still hasn't implemented properly neither the TCA nor the NIP/Windsor agreement it signed with the EU on free will.
Before the UK might join the EU again education is needed urgently about the EU, how it works and what it's for, that there is a Parliament with its democratic elected MEPs (with PR), working on behalf of the democratic elected EU27 member states Gvts and their 450ish million citizens, otherwise the UKs electorate might vote "leave" again at the following GE, and the EU27 definetely wouldn't want a "Brexit 2.0" again.

@Cider4144 Yes.
This is, what nobody over here at the Continent understands.. over here Brexit isn't even an issue anymore, only for those people, which have family and friends in the UK, like my London born spouse, who had to get dual citizenship because of Brexit, eventhough didn't have a say at the referendum/longer than 15 years abroad, but was trapped in this as well, like so many other...
So many of us over here are trying to inform as much as possible, did already the same BEFORE the referendum, EUs Commission installed a site extra for the Brits only BEFORE the referendum "all about EU - FAQs", one just had to type "EU" and it would have popped up, as it was set up on priority...
Unfortunately the Brits decided to look up about the EU AFTER the referendum, as stated by Google "the most asked question in the UK AFTER the referendum was = what is the EU?".
Since months the EUs Commission is stating clear messages towards the UK, and is doing so the whole time, but seems to never get heard once...
Like that there aren't "re-negotiations" on the table, but a REVIEW coming up to check the implementation of the TCA...
Phil, Max, etc, are still talking about "joining the EUs SM/EEA etc asap", telling them how it goes, that those "option" aren't available for 3rd countries, never get a response...
The UKs electorate have to sort their internal issues ASAP, media included, ..
And yes, I'm afraid, that neither you nor my London born spouse and I will see the UK be back in the EU27 in our life time...
I wish you all the best with greetings from Bremen 🍻 👋

....and as stated by Barnier "the EUs doors are always open for the UK....... UNDER THE KNOWN CONDITIONS", which is THAT part of the sentence, which seems to "get forgotten"....
To join the EU again will go like that:

About the topic of this vlog: it's not even on the table over here in the EU, as a French-German think tank had a "brainstorming" about that subject only, but NOTHING official...
Btw, at the moment the UK is moving away from fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria....
Estimated time for "joining the EU" about 15ish years, including the timespan needed for fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria BEFORE a country can apply for EU membership... stated by EUs spokesmen and negotiators.... known due to EUs experience from other EU membership applicants...

Correct. But you were member in a union/EU, with 450 million citizens/potential customers...frictionless, tarrif free...
Btw, the EU27 were in negotiations with the USA for four years, in the end the EUs negotiators stopped all negotiations, because the USA were demanding issues like "chloride chicken, hormon boosted beef, gen manipulated food/unmarked = all not allowed/wanted in the EUs SM, and those private arbitration courts, where any US company could claim billions of € as "compensation" from any EU member state/the EUs Commission etc, because of "loss of profit", in case the EU27 might change laws/rules/standards in the future... even if the product of that US company didn't even exis at that time.....THAT would have opened US companies doors to endless claimings for billions of compensation......

"...the EU27 were gutted when we left the block...."
Errr...NO.
Everything was sorted and got prepared for Brexit the day AFTER the referendum happened...the EU27 were ready the day Brexit happened !!
And those € 2,33 per month/head of us 450ish million EU citizens to "compensate" the loss of the UKs EU membership fee is affordable...
As the UK never paid its full membership fee due to the "Brit bargain", infact it were about one third of it only, the permanent demands of opt outs etc, it's recognisable, that since the UK left the EU27, the EUs member states are working together much smoother and faster..
Apart from, that the UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment.
Estimated time needed for joining the EU are minimum 15+ years AFTER fullfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST.
Every EU member state can leave the EU27 on its own free will, but it's up to the EU27 only, to decide, which country can join the EU and when.

So I use that mailaddy, I'm using for yt anyway? Or do I need another one?
About M, infact that info is correct, it even was reported about in the Spiegel, T-online, Guardian, leMonde, etc and at the EUs Commission site....
April 18th 2024 = the EUs Commission offer was the "EUs youth mobility deal for youngsters at the age between 18-30 for max four years to study/Erasmus, work, etc"....
A few days later the UK rejected the EUs offer...
Looking at the EUs Commission site "Q&A Commission's proposal on EU-UK youth mobility"...
Let me know, please, when the discus is ready, looking forward to that 😊

@CtrlOptDel No.
Neither was the UK "half in, half out, nor did it have to do permanent negotiatons or other whatever... " = instead it was a full member, which demanded opt outs, starting with Thatcher and the "Brit bargain" = hence UK paid about one third of its membership fee only (those £ 350 million never existed), one could say, that the UK had a EU membership "made to measure", up to the last minute, when Cameron was demanding another opt out for the UK = to stop FOM for all Continental EUropeans only, not though for the Brits...while telling the EUs negotiators, if they don't give him what's wanted, they'll start a Brexit referendum 🙄 😂
Even now, being a 3rd country, UK is misbehaving as usual by not implementing properly any of the deals, it signed with the EU27 4,5 years ago.
The EUs Commission started an infringement procedure against the UK recently, as it still hasn't implemented properly any of the deals, it signed with the EU27.
Starmer got informed about that subject, when visiting the EU27.
Right now there are various EUs member states, which wouldn't even take UKs application form for EU membership.
Don't forget, Brexit did cost the EU27 member states € millions as well, getting prepared for Brexit without having a say in it (of course), supply chains and infrastructure had to be rerouted etc.. you really think, that any of the EU27 will change that quickly again, only because UKs electorate changed its mind again, and then at the next GE, Brexit 2.0 might happen again?
Not wanted, sorry..

Well, as stated in my other response to you = UKs electorate can hold as many referenda as wanted, still doesn't change anything, hence it's up to the EU27 only, to decide, which country can join the EU and when.
Apart from, that the UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment..
To solve that issue = fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria = will take ages, as one of the needed criteria is a national debt of max 55-60 %, the UKs national debt is at 101,2 % recently...we're talking debts of about £ 1 trillion at the moment, the UK has to get rid of...

There are no "unofficial" EU member states available , there are either full EU member states or 3rd countries, like the UK is since Brexit !!
A country is either "in" or "out", UK is "out" !!
The UK has the TCA with the EU27, which it signed on its own free will 4,5 years ago, and it would be very nice, if the UK would finally implement those deals properly, it signed with the EU27 !!
The UK is NATO member state, like most EU27 and EFTA member states as well !!

Well, unfortunately it looks like, that many Brits don't seem to understand the EU, how it works, and which "joining" criteria are for which "parts" of the EU and/or EFTA...Starmer, being a lawyer, of course knows about the needed criteria, therefor can't promise something, which can't be promised, as it is up to the EU27 only, to decide, which country can join the EU and when...
When people/Brits, don't know the facts, of course they're getting angry about Starmer, thinking, that he won't "fulfill" their wishes = a quick joining the SM...which in reality isn't available...as written before...

Whatever. . just believe harder ...looking at the recent situation the UK is in = raising cases of Victorian deseases = rickets and scurvy, bankrupt cities/communities, like Birmingham and Nottingham etc, crumbling raac buildings, potholes in the roads, sewage in all British waters, heat or eat issues, food banks for hospital staff at hospitals, etc, etc...

The £ 350 million never existed due to the "Brit bargain" since Thatcher...the UK never paid its full membership fee...instead it paid about one third of it only...
Considering that EZs membership fee is used for the needed infrastructure, shared by ALL EUs member states, like the border police, customs controls, vet check ups, including civil services and infrastructure, professional EUs negotiators working on behalf of ALL EUs member states, the loss of those 756 EUs trade deals/agreements with best conditions due to EUs size/soft power with countries all over the world ...
And the loss of EUs subsidies, like those €650 million, Cornwall received every five years since the UK was EU member state...
Eus subsidies always go to the regions/districts/projects directly, like EUs fund for infrastructure, social projects for kids/youth etc, culture, art, for poor regions etc...

Remember the British Empire?
While the Osman Empire dissolved, the Brits took over by installing all those artificial borders without taking care of the already existing tribal/territorial borders at todays Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq...
....until these days trouble is ongoing in all those regions/countries, due to those, by the Brits installed artificial borders...and most of refugees, coming over towards the EU27, are coming from those areas...

The EUs Commission/negotiators/spokesmen are stating the same over and over since years now, what has to be done by the UK, like "implementing the TCA/NIP/Windsor agreement properly", that "joining the EUs SM/EEA/CU is available for EU and EFTA member states ONLY, not though for 3rd countries, according to article 126 of the EEA Agreement...

It goes like that ONLY =
the UK has to apply for EU membership by fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if NONE of the EU27 member states vetos the UK joining the EU, one veto is enough to stop the whole process, only then the UK/GB would receive the status as a "candidate for EU membership", and then the 35 chapters have to be fulfilled and implemented properly (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if not done properly, joining process stops instantly, which could take decades.

Please look up for Robert Schuman, the "father of Europe", born in Luxembourg (at that time German, later French), who's idea of a European Union started in the 1920s.
Robert Schuman was the first President of the European Parliament and the only EUropean ever, who received this very special title "father of Europe".
His book "for Europe" is available at the EUs Commission site book shop...
Please look up for Jean Monnet, the other "architect" of the EU = the "Schuman plan".
ALL of what the EU27 are today, was already part of the "Schuman plan", and got confirmed again at the Treaty of Rome in 1957, and got confirmed again at the Maastricht Treaty in 1992.
Treaty of Rome = "....set up the EEC = bringing together Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, to work together towards Integration and economic growth through trade to establish a common market based on the free movement of goods, people, services and capital".
Churchill as well as Thatcher jumped onto an already existing train ...

Well, the UK has to sort it on its own, because every EU member state can leave the EU27 on its own free will, but it's up to the EU27 only, to decide, which country can join the EU and when.
The UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment.
Estimated time needed for joining the EU are minimum 15+ years AFTER fullfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST.
Some weeks ago the EUs Commission stated/analogous "that the EU is very happy with the TCA, that it's very balanced for BOTH sides, and that the Commission is taking care of further implementation of the TCA at the REVIEW coming up".
The EUs Commission started an infringement procedure against the UK recently, as the UK still hasn't implemented properly any of the deals, it signed with the EU27.
Starmer got informed about that subject, when visiting the EU27.

Errr...no.
They stated/analogous "that the UK could join the EU again UNDER THE KNOWN CONDITIONS" !!
THAT part of it always gets overseen by the UKs electorate..
And it would go like that ONLY =
the UK has to apply for EU membership by fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if NONE of the EU27 member states vetos the UK joining the EU, one veto is enough to stop the whole process of joining the EU, only then the UK/GB would receive the status as a "candidate for EU membership", and then the 35 chapters have to be fulfilled and implemented properly (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if not done properly, joining process stops instantly, which could take decades...(see Turkiye, status as a "candidate for EU membership" since 1999, since then on hold).
It's mandatory for ALL NEW EU member states, to join the Schengen area and adapt the €/Euro, as soon as the new EU member state has a stabile enough economy !!
Perks for former EU member states don't count in anymore, the UK is a 3rd country now, like all the other 3rd countries world wide...
EEA Agreement = SPECIFIES that membership is open to member states either of the EU and or EFTA member states ONLY, according to article 126 of the EEA Agreement.
EEA = EUs SM
NOT negotiatable !!
Norway and Iceland/EFTA, are stating since years, that they'll veto the UK joining EFTA, because they don't want a "trouble maker in their club".
Only option available for the UK is full EU membership by fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST.
Estimated time needed for joining the EU are minimum 15+ years AFTER fullfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST.
The UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment.
Right now the EUs Commission started an infringement procedure against the UK, as it still hasn't implemented properly any of the deals, it signed with the EU27.

Ten countries have the status as a "candidate for EU membership" already, some since years...
Joining the EU27 isn't to "negotiate", but simply "working off the list of criteria needed to be implemented properly" = which gets monitored by the EUs Commission, if not done properly, joining process stops instantly !!
It goes like this ONLY =

The Treaty of Rome in 1957 set up the EEC, bringing together Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands = to work together towards integration and economic growth through trade ...it established a common market based on the free movement of goods, people, services and capital...
When will you Brits do some research about "the EU27", how it works and what it's for...before always over and over again posting "wrong facts"?!!

My post was about, that it was neither Thatcher nor any other Brit, who's "idea" it was, to "create" the EUs SM, as it was already part of the treaty of Rome in 1957...as "the EU27" are in a permanent developing "modus", therefor the treaty of Rome still is the core of todays EUs SM/EEA...
This part of the EUs developing "history/backround" lots of you Brits still don't seem to understand...
Please look up for Robert Schuman, the "father of Europe, born in Luxembourg (at that time German, later French), who's idea of a European Union started in the 1920s.

All of that, what the EU27 are today, exists already in the Schuman plan ☺️
While there are hundreds and thousands of EUropean citizens were/are involved of developing todays EU27...only the Brits are permanently claiming "what great influence they had on creating the EU27"... no other EUs member state are doing so, as it is a peace project for all of us 450ish million EU citizens...

As I wrote in my first answer to you, were I explained all institutions of the EU...
The PM of the UK doesn't get elected by the Brits, please get informed before posting..
The German Chancelor doesn't get elected either, but the party, which states upfront, which MP will be the candidate for chancelorship...
Same goes for the EUs Parliament, btw, the candidates for Presidents (Parliament and Commission) get recommended by the EUs Council and get elected by the EUs Parliament/MEPs, which are working ON BEHALF of the EUs citizens.
The British voting system is FPTP, where a party /Tory's can win a 80 seat majority with 34% minority... if you call THAT democratic... well...
All EU member states and the EUs Parliament have the PR voting system, which is the most democratic voting system available...
Btw, next year elections are coming up in the EU...for a new Parliament etc 😊

The so called "soft Brexit" was a fairy tale dream of the Brexiteers only, thinking, that leaving the EU would change everything for the Continental EUropeans only, not though for the Brits 😂
What you're calling the "extreme" Brexit = is the "real" Brexit = since Brexit the UK is a 3rd country = 3rd country rules apply !!

The last "three lines" would have been better..
I can't agree with those "terms", you were using, as those terms were exactly those, which were used by the Austrian painter and his buddies...considering the losses of all those people, those terms shouldn't be used in any case = resist the beginnings...
As I'm living within the EU27 with my London born spouse, I can't see any issues about Starmer...he can't promise anything, which isn't up to the UK, but to the EU27 only..
The Tory's left the recent gvt a pile of shards..."construction site" everywhere, difficult where to start first...3rd country status, no dosh left, EU started an infringement procedure against the UK, etc, etc...and he is in power not even 100 days..
One could get the feeling, that the UKs electorate is expecting too much after 14 years of Tory's....

Forgot to say, ALL NEW EU member states have to join the Schengen area and adapt the €/Euro, as soon as the new EU member state has a stabile enough economy.
Brexit has created huge damage to the British economy/citizens...
To cut off a country from the worlds largest SM right in front of your doorstep isn't the most clever idea...
Opposit to the USA, which is one country with its states, the EU27 are a pragmatic, rule based organisation/union of 27 independent and souvereign countries with their democratic elected Parliament (with PR) and its MEPs working on behalf of the democratic elected EU27 member states Gvts and their 450ish million citizens.
The EUs SM is there to benefit the 450ish million EU citizens, so every citizen can work, live, move, study, travel, trade as if living in ones own country...frictionless trading, tarrifs free...ALL of that the UK threw under the bus....
As you're US citizen = big country, you know, that it helps, when doing "trading deals etc".... same goes for the EU27 with its 450ish million citizens = soft power, like for trading deals, the UK is on its own now, not the best idea in todays times...
The EU27 are a peace project based on solidarity and respect for all EUropean member states...

About "rebuilding" Ukraine...it won't be done "properly", as long as Russia is "bombing it to dust again"... everything done recently is provisorical, to give a bit of shelter and keep the urgently needed infrastructure running /electricity/heating/water supply/canalisation...
You make it sound, as if the EUropean companies are already "sitting on the fences like vultures", waiting to do "corpse scargenving" on the "left overs" from Ukraine ...
Well, as the war unfortunately and sadly is still ongoing, who knows, how long it'll take... before "rebuilding" a by war destroyed country, first of all EVERY centimeter has to be checked for "dud shots and landmines",... that alone will take its time...

Since 2023 Germany is the worlds third largest economy...
While the UK dropped from worlds fifth largest economy to sixth....
The EU27/Germany will replace all fossil fuels (oil, coal, nat gas) with green hydrogen, the goal is focused on 2030-2045.
Hydrogen can be used as storage battery for the overloads from the offshore windmills and others as well as raw material for proceeding things like steel, glass, paper etc as well.
Lots of start ups are working on alternative storage possibilities as well.
Electrolyseurs (wind to power) are under construction everywhere as well.
The EU27/Germany are in transition going green...the EUs "green deal" has a value of € ONE TRILLION for going green, to support the EUs member states and their economies/industries by going green.
From the 14 due to the war needed reactivated coal power plants seven have been shut down again this week, because Germany's permanently ongoing further expansion of renewables (wind, solar, water) has raised and therefor those temporarily reactivated coal power plants could be shut down again 😊
63,6 % Germany's electricity gets produced by renewables...figures still raising..In 2021 it were 41% only...
Please look up for Wolfspeed, Infenion, TSMC, Intel, Bosch, Northvolt, VW, Ford, Microsoft...etc, etc.. all these international companies are building gigafactories all over Germany, to produce future technologies 😊

Arcelor-Mittal Bremen steel mill and Saarstahl steel mill received €1,3 billion EU subsidies each to build their own electrolyseurs/windmills and arc furnaces, to produce green steel in the near future.

Airbus Bremen is developing hydrogen powered airplanes in cooperation with the Ariane Group/OHB Bremen, the goal is focused on 2035

As written before, not electricity is needed, but a gas (in this case = green hydrogen) as raw material for proceeding things like steel, glass, paper, medical units for dialysis, Aspirin, dairy products, tires, all sorts of plastic, cosmetic products, etc...THAT can't be produced with electricity only...
About "hydrogen doesn't have a future"... errr...yess, it does... and one would think, if about 45 countries world wide with about ONE BILLION people living there, are "going green" by using hydrogen in the near future, that they're knowing, what they're doing...
The re-opening of some of Germany's coal power plants will be used only temporarily...as written before = the goal is focused on 2030-2045.
Of course Germany still has six research reactors.....or did you think, that that country, which discovered/invented nuclear fission (Hahn/Meitner) would give up on it completely ? 😎
Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands have taken over from Russia with delivering nat gas to the EU27...
Forgot to say, 2022 Germany was doing the back up power for France, as France had to shut down half of its nuclear power plants because of low water levels in the rivers due to the recent heat wave (2022) and urgently needed maintenance. Most of that back up power got delivered by renewables (wind, solar, water) from Germany 😊
In case you're coming up with more "facts", to prove, how much "better" the UK is doing....the London laundromat is by far that location, where dirty Russian money gets "cleaned" again...
Ahhh, yess, aaand = the EU27 are collapsing again since decades at any minute 🙄 😂
And again, the British obsession about the EU27, France and Germany is quite amusing... considering, that UK left the EU27 😂😎
Thanks for Brexiting with greetings from the EU27 🖐

You were blaming Germany having started twice a ww... which isn't correct !!
I strongly recommend you to read the book =
"How Europe went into WWI" by Sir Christopher Clark
What about the "British Empire"? no answer on that?!!
It was expected ...
Btw, "UK had an agreement with Belgium"...and Russia had one with Serbia, which started the war, and Germany had one with Austria....etc, etc...
And if the British Empire hadn't been doing, what it did 100 years ago = "installing artificial borders without taking care of the already existing tribal/territorial borders" in todays Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, etc, etc...we wouldn't have all those "issues" ongoing there until these days.. !!
Guess what, most refugees coming over here into the EU27, are coming from exactly those areas...

Here some history lesson for you =
Austro-Hungarian Empire (look at a map), did an ultimatum to Serbia, if not...
What was it about? Austro-Hungarian authorities wanted to send their own police to investigate the assasination of its crown prince, Serbia refused.
The German Kaiser wrote two letters to the Austrian Kaiser, in the first one he confirmed the status quo as an allie of Austria...
Serbia gave in, therefor the German Kaiser wrote a second letter to the Austrian Kaiser, stating, that a war is obsolete now, as Serbia had given in...
Austro-Hungarian started the invasion of Serbia anyway, Russia stepped in being an allie of Serbia, etc, etc ..
France still was annoyed, that it lost the French-German war 1870-1871 = France invaded Germany and lost...
It's not as simple as one might think...
Again = read the book = "the Sleepwalkers, how Europe went into WWI" by Sir Christopher Clark

What about Edward VIII and his (later) American wife, as both of them were big fans of H, same goes for Mosley and his brown shirts...
If Edward VIII didn't have to step down because of his American wife, the UK would have had a Nazi King, imagine the bad image for the UK, after the war finished...

Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are EFTA members...
Norway and Iceland are stating since years, that they would "veto the UK joining EFTA, because they don't want a trouble maker in their club", on top of that = ALL four EFTA members together have about 16 million people living there, the UK has about 67ish million on its own, that's another reason for the EFTA members, as it would be to "outbalanced".
As stated by the EUs Commission = there are TWO options available only = full EU membership or EFTA membership.
EFTA membership is not available as written before, therefor only option available = full EU membership....
EEA Agreement = SPECIFIES that membership is open to member states either of the EU and or EFTA member states ONLY, according to article 126.
EEA = EUs SM
NOT negotiatable !!
The EU27 are a pragmatic, rule based organisation/union of independent and souvereign countries with their democratic elected Parliament (with PR) and its MEPs working on behalf of the democratic elected EU27 member states Gvts and their 450ish million citizens.
The accession criteria for EU membership are well known, and are available at the EUs Commission site or = just Google = EUs joining criteria...
It also would be very nice, when the UK would finally implement those deals/treaties, it signed with the EU27...before demanding opt outs again..
Btw, half of my family are British living in the UK...therefor no "anti British" sentimental, just simple facts about the EU27 and the joining process..
Oh, and it always needs two to tango...

@gary5737
Look, there is EFTA = about 16ish million citizens
and the EU27 = 450ish million citizens
EFTA member states WOULD VETO the UK
EU27 membership would go like that =
the UK has to apply for EU membership by fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria FIRST (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if NONE of the EU27 member states vetos the UK joining the EU (one veto would be enough), only then the UK/GB would receive the status as a "candidate for EU membership", and then the 35 chapters have to be fulfilled and implemented properly (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission), if not done properly, joining process stops instantly.
The UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment = a national debt of max 55 %, the UKs national debt is at 101,2 % recently.
All accession criteria for EU membership are available at the EUs Commission site or Google
EUs joing criteria =
article 49 TEU

Leaving the EU automaticly includes leaving the EUs SM/EEA/CU, according to article 126 of the EEA Agreement !!
EEA = EUs SM
NOT negotiatable !!
Norway and Iceland/EFTA, are stating since years, that they'll veto the UK joining EFTA, because they don't want a "trouble maker in their club".
The so called "soft Brexit" was a fairy tale dream of the Brexiteers only, thinking, that leaving the EU would change everything for the Continental EUropeans only, not though for the Brits 😂
As stated by various EUs negotiators "no deal will be as good or even better than being EU member state", or the short cut version "club member benefits are for club members only" 😂
Some weeks ago the EUs Commission stated/analogous "that the EU is very happy with the TCA, that it's very balanced for BOTH sides, and that the Commission is taking care of further implementation of the TCA at the REVIEW coming up".
The EUs Commission started an infringement procedure against the UK recently, as it still hasn't implemented properly any of the deals, it signed with the EU27.
Starmer got informed about that subject, when visiting the EU27.
The UK left the EU27 on its own free will, therefor is a 3rd country now = 3rd country rules apply !!

Well, the British negotiators wanted to pull out everything connected with "the EU"...
Unfortunately the EFTA/Norway etc members stated various times, that they'll veto the UK joining the EFTA because they don't want a "trouble maker in their club".
The EU27 negotiators/spokesmen stated various times as well, that "bespoke deals/like the Swiss one, are NOT available anymore either, because of "too much hustle".
Only option is: the UK has to apply for EU membership by fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria first, if none of the EU27 member states vetos the UK joining the EU again, only then the UK would receive the status as a "candidate for EU membership", and then the 35 chapters (which would be monitored by the EUs Commission) have to be fulfilled/implemented properly, which could take decades.
No exceptions, no cherry picking, no fast track, no opt outs, as stated by various EU spokesmen.
It's mandatory for ALL NEW EU member states to join the Schengen area and adapt the €/Euro, as soon as the new EU member state has a stabile enough economy.
Greetings from the EU27 😊

@stevemitchell1454 Sure...🤣
Please look up for Wolfspeed, a US company which will build a gigafactory for semi conductors at the Federal State of Saarland/Germany.
Infenion near Dresden
Bosch near Dresden
TSMC (Taiwanese company which will build a gigafactory for micro chips) at Silicon Saxony near Dresden
Intel near Magdeburg
Northvolt near Hamburg
Ford near Cologne
VW is building 3 gigafactories for EVs batteries, one at Lower Saxony/Germany, one in Sweden in cooperation with Northvolt and one in Spain or Portugal.
Etc, etc ..
Germany is in the EU27...😊,
the EU27 is "looking" east, doing some more trade deals, like it recently did with NZ, still at negotiations with Australia, mercosur, and other countries around the world.... usual business 😊
Btw, my in England living English family and friends told me, it's going really good over there with the crumbling raac buildings, potholes in the roads, disappearing NHS converting into a private health system US style, food banks for hospital staff at hospitals, stripped down protection of labourship, environment, banking, striking and demonstrating rights, sewage in all British waters...and the UK is loosing about £100 billion per year since Brexit | Bloomberg 🤣😎

All the people responding to you ARE born EU citizens living in the EU27 😂
Btw, the EUs Commission is stating since years, that there won't be any "bespoke deals" anymore, because of "too much hassle".
The UK has the TCA with the EU27, and it would be very nice, if the UK would finally implement those deals, it signed with the EU27.
Again = some weeks ago the EUs Commission stated/analogous "that the EU is very happy with the TCA, that it's very balanced for BOTH sides, and that the Commission is taking care of further implementation of the TCA at the REVIEW coming up".

Again = every EU member state can leave the EU27 on its own free will, but it's up to the EU27 only, to decide, which country can join the EU and when.

every EU member state can leave the EU27 on its own free will, but it's up to the EU27 only, to decide, which country can join the EU and when.
The UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment.
The EU27 changed some joining criteria due to the financial crisis in 2008, therefor ALL APPLYING 3rd countries need to have a national debt of max < 60 %, the UKs national debt is at 101,2 % recently.
As it's mandatory for ALL NEW EU member states, to join the Schengen area and adapt the €/Euro, those new EUs joining criteria/national debt are part of that.
EUs joining criteria =
article 49 TEU
Those criteria are for ALL APPLYING 3rd countries...not for UK only !!
No opt outs, no exceptions, no cherry picking, no fast track anymore for any country in the world, as stated by various EUs negotiators/spokesmen/Commission various times since years !!

The UK lost £ 100 billion due to Brexit in 2022
The UK lost £ 140 billion due to Brexit in 2023 | Bloomberg and Financial Times
January this year the "passporting" went back into the EU27, June 2025 the "Euroclearing" will be back in the EU27, then Brexit is complete, as the transition period of FOM for capital ends June 2025.
This is a huge loss for the City of London, as those financial services are making up about one third of worlds market for clearing services = a value of £ 260 trillion per year.
Those figures don't include the loss of the clearing services yet...
Of course UK can prepare for EU membership, but it'll take quite a while...
I wish you all the best with greetings 👋

Hi Shaun 😊,
while reading your comment, I was wondering, what WW II has to do with the issues of todays British politics and the way, the British youth gets treated by its own gvt? 🤔
My London born spouse and I are living in the EU27/Germany, thinking about your question "if it would have been better to be a born French, Dutch, German or Brit after WW II"?
Well, as all those mentioned before Continental EUropean member states/countries had mostly been crumbled to dust due to the war...
All of them received money due to the Marshall plan =
UK = $ 3,75 billion
Germany = $ 1,5 billion, of which $ 1 billion had to be paid back = of course, as Germany was the agressor...
All of those mentioned before countries are todays EUs member states and in a much better situation than the UK is in...
What makes me wonder, why are so many Brits...unfortunately until these days, are referring to WW II for so many of todays issues...meanwhile the British and German air forces are doing the air policing at the Baltics = always with British/German cockpit crews 😊
May be the simple answer to your question would be = that it's British politics and its politicians, which are supposedly should act on behalf of the British people/electorate/country, and not to benefit their own buddies..
I wish you all the best with greetings from the EU27/Germany 😊🖐

@shaunbell499
Thanks for answering...
Well, not so much really...why?
The generation before yours were baby's /toddlers/kids at the time around WW II happened, the ones coming after you just know it due to history lessons at school...
So it were your grandparents generation talking about it?
As a EU citizen I can tell you, that unfortunately most of Brexitters, partly Remainers as well, still seem to fight WW II...as THAT statement pops up quite regular against the EU citizens and the EU27 itself 😒
Then I would say, that it might have been better to be a born Dutch, French or German after WW II...
A change of mindset might be an idea for British society...may be the following generations of Brits have a chance on doing so...
Forgot to say = the Dutch and German armies are fully merged since 2023, that process started already in 1995.
It needs to get worked on the past...that includes the British Empire as well, as that meant = invading, occupation, so called "colonialism"....and not = the "glory of the British Empire"....
"United in diversity, all for one, one for all, together we're strong", THAT are the EU27 !!

"Rapprochement, realignment, joining the EU asap, etc" = the usual British cherry picking =
UK has the TCA/NIP/Windsor agreement with the EU27...and it would be very nice, if the UK would finally implement those deals/treaties, it signed with the EU27...
Some weeks ago the EUs Commission stated "the EU is very happy with the TCA, that it's very balanced for BOTH sides, and that the Commission is looking for further implementation of the TCA at the REVIEW coming up".
And yes, right now there are various EUs member states, which would veto the UK...
And again = the UK doesn't even fulfill the needed criteria for APPLYING for EU membership at the moment = a national debt of max 55 %, the UKs national debt is at 101,2 % recently...
Starmer can sort UKs internal/national issues first...the EUs Commission/negotiators/spokesmen are stating this since years over and over again...
EVERY EU member state has one voice, Malta (about 550.000 people) the same as Germany (about 84ish million people), every EU member state has one voice.
ONE voice/veto is enough, to stop the whole process of joining...

Since the EU changed some joining criteria due to the financial crisis in 2008, part of the accession criteria are = a national debt of max 55 %, the UKs national debt is at 101,2 % recently = this is ONE of many criteria, why the UK can't even APPLY for EU membership at the moment...

@ERG173 OK.
But the EU27 are a pragmatic, rule based organisation/union, hence the UK has to follow EUs joining criteria article 49 TEU fully, this time without any opt outs/exceptions etc, including paying the full EUs membership fee this time...
The UK never paid its full membership fee due to the "Brit bargain" since Thatcher, instead it paid about one third of it only /not though those "£ 350 million " per week..
Main issue will be to fulfill the needed applying criteria, like a national debt of max 55-60 %, the UKs national debt is at 101,2 % recently...that will take ages to reduce it to the needed figures..
As it's mandatory for ALL NEW EU member states, to join the Schengen area and adapt the €/Euro, as soon as the new EU member state has a stabile enough economy...
The EU27 changed some joining criteria due to the financial crisis in 2008, hence those "national debt criteria"..
It'll be a very long way back for the UK, this is why Starmer stated "not in his lifetime", as he is 62, he knows about the issues..
