It's a distinctly modern western zeitgeist. You won't find it in most places. In fact, in Chechnya there was a witch hunt for gays and they couldn't find anyone to accuse.

@KarlSnarks I've seen the primary source evidence and that's a myth created because sensationalized news was citing other other sensationalized news. What we know happened was Chechnyan police raided a house and found compromising pictures on a someone's phone. That lead to a panic and witch hunt for gays with several local muslim clerics declaring how evil these guys were. Chechnyan President Kadyrov eventually halted the uproar by saying they could not find any gays. However, anecdotal evidence of a few men arrested and tortured for allegedly being gay has surfaced. Western media continued reporting on the matter, with the reports becoming less accurate with time as known incidents turned to political rhetoric. The reason behind this is in most Muslim countries being gay is a grave accusation akin to being called a pedo in the west. Many men killed allegedly for being gay simply ran afoul of local gangs. But really, the lack of persecution of LGBT is most a matter that it hardly exists outside the west. You might as well try to convince these guys it's ok to screw their sisters.
