  1. About these South American "prisons." Most are just urban exile where the government sticks you in there and doesn't feed you or ask questions. The residents are very poor as they must fend for themselves, but rich criminals literally run the place for better or for worse, forming their own strange little prison community.

  15.  @m.g.6394  Depends on time and place, but yes a lot of illegal stuff happens. Most of the time it's just jailers collecting bribes in exchange for favors, hence why the rich outlaws often run the place. Supermax isn't true solitary confinement but it is nearly so.

  17. Not if you know anything. Extortion is the big money maker, and as much as 2/3 of the drugs are for local use. The drugs quintuple in value the instant they enter the US so that's the trade a lot of gangsters fight to monopolize that
