@korana6308 It switched from laughable annoyance to a real threat to liberty about 10 years ago; but it actually started closer to 40 years ago. It didn't get attention because nobody took it serious, but it was in the schools festering and expanding. And that is the slow boiled frog.

Reagan cut federal funding for mental asylums, and states never bothered to pick up the slack. (While his admin/congress increased spending and tripled the federal debt… )

It is an international Iso commitee, not an american standards group. (The last ANSI version of C was in 1989)

The injured beast is lashing out in desperation as the political winds are shifting against it. Businesses will soon follow as they see the most DEI focused companies are beginning to fail, money talks. It will take time, this was created with decades of public school indoctrination, so it won't turn off like a light switch.

You could see the storm approaching for about the last 5 years, the male speakers at conferences all seem to have continuously reducing testosterone like they picked up some sort of parasites that inhibit hormone production. What little marketing they do for conferences has an extremely virtue signalling focus on transpeople and women. (Not that people in those groups can't do software dev, but the projected image is far out of proportion with a random sample.) Just a wasteful drain on valuable committee resources.

@souljastation5463 It's every ones' fault, voters are by and large ignorant, gullible, and blindly tribal. There are plenty of deep blue states that have not re-funded their asylums in the 40 years since, so certainly not a problem limited to the "right wing". Politicians of the big two parties are nearly all grifters whether corrupt or just incompetent. They don't join a major party for any sort of principled platform or ideology, they do it because that is how they get elected and re-elected.
