  1. Actually, it's not that Chinese people are Atheists. They just do not subscribe to an almighty God like in Abrahamic religions. Taoism, Confucianism or even Buddhism can be classified as religions but without any omnipotent God. They are more philosophies of how one should live and what is in the afterlife. And there are many who adhere to those 3 'religions'. So, it depends on how the question was asked to the Chinese.

  3.  @everjoykeith  well.. Mao Is no More and has been gone for a long time. All countries (and religions too, including your own) have had dark times. Again, one should not classify non-abahamic religion followers as Atheists
