Oh here we go.... Another Admiral joins us. There are both RAF and USMC F-35s on board HMS Queen Elizabeth. And FAA if you count Merlins and Wildcats.

@M. Hall - You mean you are glad they on our side. There you go corrected your typo. This is a British operation.

@outlier5844 The uniquely English joys of: There Their They're And when 'they're' getting you down 'their' use is confusing have someone say 'there there' and all will be well .. 👌😂

@noodles169 Commodore Steve Moorhouse - Commander of the UK Carrier Strike Group.

@Klliansimabras Why not? You have never heard of NATO interoperability? The USMC owe the UK a favour over F-35 build numbers and LM are still in LRIP rates of production so have only delivered 21 of the 48 ordered so far. We have 3 in California integrating weapons for all F-35s and we need a core fleet at ARF Marham with OCU207 Sqdn to train new pilots for the new aircraft when delivered. The USMC recently introduced a new way of operating F-35s and see this deployment as a great way to a) work with their closest ally and b) test out how the new methodology is working. Big deal it isn't although it is the biggest carrier born F-35 deployment ever.

@SteveJones-om6ks Sorry but recruitment and retention are actually ahead of plans for the Navy. We can crew every ship we have. If there was a 3rd carrier one would be in refit with 2 operating so we would only need 2 crews. This is standard naval practice. HMS Ocean was sold because it was a) one of a kind, b) at the end of its service life and c) had no further use. Nothing to do with crews for QEs.

@SteveJones-om6ks Well we are going to have to agree to disagree then.

@outlier5844 Err ... No (just for the craic) 😂 Its 'Their spelling is better' or 'Their spelling's better'. There is no plural to 'spelling'. And commas work in pairs so if commas are used it would be: "Their spelling is, maybe, better too" God I love the English language ..👍😂

The US Navy isn't there duffus (apart the one AB destroyer). This is a joint RAF / USMC air wing.

Hans Tuber Its slightly different to that: The USMC activity, as all activity does on board the QE, comes under the command of the ship's captain - RN Captain Angus Essenhigh. From the point all aircraft arrive on deck all movements, launches and retrievals come under the command of the ship's 'Flyco' - RN Captain James Blackmore (ex Harrier, ex F-18 etc) and his staff in the rear island. The USS Sullivans, like the QE and all the other accompanying ships, comes under the command of the Commander, UK Carrier Strike Group - RN Commodore Steve Moorhouse. There is also a US Senior National Representative on board USMC Colonel Simon Doran.

Hans Tuber Just done a quick look at what a CAG does and yes it seems a very similar role! Ultimately the RN Flyco has to defer to the Officer of the Watch as he is responsible for the ship's safety as a whole and needs to operate the ship as a whole for the maximum benefit of Flyco. It seems the CAG has a similar role. Either way the USMC detachment seem to work very well under the RN way of doing things and the RN crew seem to rub along with their colonial cousins pretty well. I suspect the two bars on the ship help that ....
