It's not so much as abandoned responsibilities as it is what the city can afford to do, Detroit has lost their manufacturing jobs, their population moved away and they have very little tax revenue, the city has to budget ahead for every winter without knowing how bad the winter will be, the city has to prioritize keeping the streets open so that the population can get to work, starting in spring it becomes time to fix potholes that salt makes.

  2. I don't know if you have noticed but Detroit has way more empty houses for sale than buyers, people are moving out of the city, not into.

  3. Can't sell if there's no buyer, the Land Bank program has 75,000 properties for sale in Detroit and add all the homes for sale by owners/banks/county tax office the figure may be 100,000 or more.

  4. Our politicians are passing laws that gives incentives for manufacturers to move jobs to other countries, it all started with the Republican president Nixon opening trade with China in the early 70's.

  5. Detroit has 75,000 properties for sale in the Land Bank program alone, there's thousands of people owned, bank owned, county homes for sale on top of the 75,000, people are still moving out of Detroit in larger numbers than are moving in. There's no housing shortage, there is a job shortage.

  10. Detroit is saturated with empty homes, it is a buyers market, not a sellers market, people are moving out of the blight, not into.
