  2. 1:17:58 I think that there were a number of things that caused the Soviet attempt to set up a parallel trading system to fail. First the Soviet mindset, that said that if something was "not in the plan" it should not be made and the ideological dispute with the Chinese which, despite the fact that the Chinese were making a lot of the things that Russians were crying out for, meant that China was excluded from the roster of approved participants. There were also, probably, similar blocks on the Chinese side, as the ideological dispute was at its height at that time.

  3. 1:19:08 I too, would put my money on the BRICS system because since the end of the 1960s the economic life of working people in the West has been getting worse and worse and at present is becoming disastrous for very many of them. The Chinese by contrast, though apparently in a permanent state of imminent collapse, have managed their "defunct" economy so "incompetently" that they have lifted 700 million people out of extreme poverty and are running a country where almost everybody has a home to go to and homelessness is not a problem and the outlook for the future is good. As the Chinese are going to be almost certainly dominant in the new trading system, it seems to me, that it is extremely likely that the countries in it will be able to prosper in a way that countries subject to the IMF and World Bank, have never been allowed to.
