About a year before it happened, I read articles in "Peking Review" explaining how it was absolutely certain that the US was going to have to go off the Gold Standard and explaining in detail why. I was sceptical, but I bought 10 gold Sovreigns, @ £3/15 on the strength of it. I cursed my scepticism roundly when the price shot up a few months later! Clearly Soros, also saw clearly that the British government would have to devalue, before it did, going from (wasn't it?), $4 to the pound to $2.40.
