Even in our constitutional republic the constitution can be changed. For instance, the 1st Amendment could be repealed or changed in any way if enough people desired to. Look at the amendment to abolish liquor and the amendment that stuck that abolishment down. With that being said, the others are part right and part wrong. A republic (constitutional or not) does not need to be a democracy. However, a democracy is always a republic by definition. Democracy is but one method by which a republic may put the power in its people. In the United State's case, for instance, we have an indirect or representative democracy, whereas the Soviet Union (at least in intention) put the power in the people by way of communism.

Danny Hurren I know you're not dumb, but you failed to properly read what I wrote. Your wording and capital letters implies you were disagreeing with me, but what you said actually agreed with me. Regarding your second reply to me. You stated originally, "...meaning In a democracy the majority can take away the minorities rights.. but in our form of government it can't. " That's patently false for the reasons I already pointed out to you. You attempted to change the goalpost is all. Egocentricity is a bad thing, my friend. Admit your faults -- no one's perfect.

***** The definition of a republic is a government in which the governing of the nation is considered a public matter (as opposed to something like an absolute monarchy). Democracy is but one method by which the power is placed in the people. An indirect or representative democracy is very different from a republic -- these terms are not synonymous and are only mutually inclusive in that if a governmental system is democratic, it is de facto republic. However, as I explained earlier in this post, a republic does not necessarily mean a democracy (though democracies have been historically the most successful vehicle to give power to the people).
