It was only because of efforts like the Revolution that slavery was finally ended because it turned out to be a poor method of control over English colonies as they once thought. Through some wicked twist of irony, America was just left holding the slavery bag, but we ignore the fact that the British crown forced slavery on those colonies.

The assault weapon ban of 1994 was highly unconstitutional, as is the NFA of 1934 and all subsequent laws. This isn't historical precedent, it's hardly history at all. Historical precedent would be something the Founding Fathers passed between 1776 and 1835 or so -- which is nothing.

  29. Mad King, I'm saying that gun reform is not adding new laws, but repealing all laws the infringe on the natural rights of the people. Immigration reform isn't changing immigration laws, but repealing them all and opening our borders complete, restoring to the people the natural right to move about freely. Ending the war on drugs is removing all drug enforcement legislation and making all drugs and anything related to them legal.

  32. bob starr, an improvement on the current gun laws is to repeal them. In this nation, we shouldn't be trading liberty for security. In my ideal situation, traffic laws would be determiners of criminal liability in the case of an accident. No one would be pulled over and fined. Instead, if their actions actually infringe on another person's rights, speed limits and rules of the road would be used to determine criminal liability.

  36. Immigration laws are also an infringement on the rights of the people. The right to move about freely is a natural right that no government has legitimate authority over and is not enumerated as a power granted to Congress in Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution. Congress only has the power to set naturalization standards, not immigration standards. There weren't even any immigration laws until 1875.
