Thinking the Marines or the Japanese both on Guadal Canal may have been safer than the guys on the warships is kinda twisted if you consider the fact that there are mosquitoes spreading malaria, 20 foot crocs in the rivers, & an enemy shooting at you with machine guns not to mention the artillery fire of ships in Iron Bottom Sound.

My take on it, is that after losing 4 aircraft carriers at Midway that the Japanese didn't know whether to shit or go blind! And in the 6 months previous to Midway they had bitten off more than they could chew and their forces were spread out like a tiny bit of butter over too much bread. And they just wasn't sure where to bite next.

Hey Drach, you should talk to these guys about the 3 of you doing a similar show as this to discuss the Royal Navy "lending" the US a carrier & all the benefits that this taught the US & the things it taught the Royal Navy. And maybe try to go into detail about what some of the operations were with these.

Idk, Trent makes the statement that the US is clearly learning more than the Japanese. I would guess that the more & more you lose the more you learn from it, except for the people that die in the process! From my perspective & opinion the US didn't learn fast enough & kept sending in Admirals that were too slow to react or to slow to let other ships react. Yes, they ended up setting up CIC's but too little & too late for about 10 cruisers and the men aboard them! Tassaforonga shows that with the lead ship NOT being allowed to release torpedoes until it was a waste to even do so. And then open fire before the torpedoes arrive. AND the unintelligent thing of thinking well we shot our torpedoes, maybe the enemy shot their torpedoes as well & maybe try evasive actions??? And these are methods that have been going on for years & should have already been learned. And as far as the Japanese is concerned, the decisive battle was Midway & they lost but they were too stubborn to accept that they lost "the decisive battle".
