Wow, it seems like Tokyo is a different world from rural Japan where I live. Since there aren’t many HQs here, companies doesn’t really hire non-Japanese people for office-type jobs. (Unless you actually grew up here, that’s a different story.) Factory work? Sure. Convenience store? Sure. English teaching? Lots of options there! Marketing team? Uh…

@justjoshininjapan700 That’s mostly what I’ve found as well. Well, one other possibility, for those with advanced Japanese skills, is doing translation work. I know a guy who does it freelance, full time, and makes more than I do (working full time in public schools).

@etherdog Thanks for the encouragement! I suppose that’s one of the perks of NOT having a higher-paying, corporate job here — more free time to do creative projects like making videos. 🍻

I like your idea. The situation for musicians is definitely a bit different here than in most other countries.

@daysl33per You need a 4-year post secondary degree. The subject is pretty much irrelevant. It is generally easy to get a first job, if you don’t mind working for one of the big conversation schools like Aeon, Nova, etc, or dispatch company like Interac. They usually sponsor your visa and help get you here. The cushiest option is the JET Program, but it’s harder to get in. Look around online, you’ll find more. (One job-specific website I can remember offhand is “Gaijinpot”.) That’s all for now. I’m actually planning on making a video on this topic in the near future. It seems like a lot of people have the same question as you!

@xxShadowKickxx I’m not sure about truck driving, but I meet a lot of foreign residents who work in factories. I think it’s a special kind of visa but I don’t know the details, sorry.

@daysl33per I don’t have that particular video up on my channel yet (I need a few months to get that one done). But there is some content about Japanese schools. Anyway, good luck!

@STOPSYPHER You can find English teaching work anywhere in Japan. More people in cities means more opportunities, of course. But also more other foreign teachers, so you don’t get the ‘exotic factor’ working for you like you do in a small town. Just do some research BEFORE you move in to gauge your options.
