I can understand your heart break at the decision of scrapping the beautiful HMS Hood as one of the five choices but Hood was a hurried redesign to partially incorporate the lessons of Jutland. Scrapping her, Renown and Repulse in favour of building properly redesigned Admiral class ships does make sence, even if it's a cold blooded decision.

@Jodonho The feeling of 'Goodwill' as you call it was not shattered by the Great Depression. The Japanese dishonorably lied and cheated before the ink was even dry on the Treaty. All the cruisers and carriers were well over their announced displacement by 20% or more and frequently over the maximum treaty limits. The Mogami's being the most blatant examples of Japan's 'compliance' being 40% over their announced standard displacement. (ie:12,500 tons as opposed to 8,500) Italy built some of their Treaty cruisers over the Limit It seems only Britain, France and the USA tried to honour their signed oaths
