Poor ship seemed to have all the bad luck and reputation I hope they at least apologized to the USS Iowa for almost serving them a tin fish.

Is there any truth at all to the often repeated piece of BS I see that the Swordfish were flying too SLOW for Bismarck to hit as its AA system was calibrated for planes flying at a much higher speed. To me this is completely ridiculous. Not only the fact that any plane is TOO SLOW to target, but that the methodical and precise Germans would not think that if Bismarck DID come under torpedo attack in the Atlantic then the aircraft would be Fairy Swordfish, a plane whose speed was well known as it had been in service for some years. Guess the Nazi's should be grateful the Allies didn't get a working helicopter into service. Another point that is either ignored or an excuse made is the failure of the manually aimed 20 &37mm. The usual excuse is the crew was untrained. Also ridiculous for a ship completer in Aug1940 would not be fully worked up by May1941. I trust your opinion Drachinifel and ask if you can settle this. The ONLY source I've found for the "Too Slow" fiction is the comments of Bismarck fans and their Wikipedia posts. And we all know what an unimpeachable source Wikipedia is lol
