Well said At times I think Drach's hatred of Beatty colours his viewpoint in ignoring the many 'natural 20's' Hipper and Scheer rolled during that battle. Even hitting a ship at range during WW1 was both skill, training and a bit of luck, actually Hitting! the vulnerable spot involves a large slice of luck. The Germans seemed to be rolling a lot of 20's during Jutland

@bkjeong4302 No I got what you were saying I'm just commenting that 1. IMO Drach places far too much blame on Beatty, even for things beyond his control. Like opening fire late, well HE wasn't behind the rangefinder taking sightings, Beatty was on the Bridge and most likely ordered :Open fire when you have the range" 2. The German fleet were rolling natural 20's all day and only saved from destruction (or far worse damage) by that. Even that Danish steamer that blew off steam and started the battle was a huge slice of luck for the HSF. If not for that the BCF and GF would have been far closer to each other and the HSF much farther from it's base IF battle had been joined.

I'd list the Germans as blatant treaty breakers right up there with the Japanese. None of the ships built under the various treaties they signed complied with them usually being around 20% over the displacement allowed with the three Hipper class being the worst at between 40-60% depending on the specific ship. Although Scharnhorst was around 32,000 tons, Germany 1. Announced them as 26,000 and 2. Started construction BEFORE the Anglo=German treaty was signed which (by law) makes them illegal as they are breaking Versailles treaty limit of 10,000tons. As it takes years to design a large warship it shows intent to break that Treaty. And the escalator clause of 2nd London does NOT cover the Bismarcks as Germany was not a signatory of that Treaty and so is not covered by it.
