I have read how the conditions at Scapa Flow in WW1 were bleak with little comforts for the men of RN ships and the various Captains and Admirals went to great length to provide sporting and entertainment for their crews. This contrasted sharply with German senior officers who did little for the crews at their base. How true is this?
