I know you don't have a high opinion of Beatty but I feel Scheer and especially Hipper get far, far more praise than they deserve. Why did neither of these supposed Naval Geniuses wonder why Beatty was leading them North towards Norway and not North West towards Scapa during the run to the North? Once he drew out of gun range only Hipper's ships could catch him and the fast Battleships of 1stScG had proven they did not want to tangle with the true BB's of 5th BS. And yes I said fast BB's, apart from Von Der Tann, given how they were designed, they are far more like lesser armed BB's trading fire power for speed than true BC's.

@marcusfranconium3392 There are several massive problems with this Dutch fleet being built in German yards. Germany simply did not have the yard space to build so many extra Dreadnoughts as well as their own ships and I suspect that once war broke out work on them would have been suspended in the same manner as the Greek Salamis. Also the German Army had priority on guns produced by Krupp and would have seized them. Also events do not happen in isolation. If these 9 ships had been in a position to be seized and completed somehow Britain would NOT had suspended Battleships they were building or proposing and would have pressed ahead with them and had more ships in the Grand Fleet. Sorry but I find it very annoying where people give Germany a MASSIVE!!! and unrealistic boost but have the British doing nothing to counter it when they can see it happening. I could counter with "What would have happened if Britain had completed all 8 proposed QE's and 8 R class and had them at Jutland? With green boy shells."

@marcusfranconium3392 I'm afraid yours is the ridiculous argument, Denmark was certainly not in a position to finance and man NINE dreadnoughts. One or two maybe, but not nine as the cost would have bankrupted the country. Nor was Germany in a position to build such a large order, if they had the yard space they would have built more ships for their own navy, Their yard space, armour and gun manufacturing was pushed to the limit as it was. And the problems of British AP shells were known long before the war, Jellicoe noted this when he was in charge but after his transfer to a new position he did not follow up, just left a note for the new man coming in. So if you can have a fantasy situation of nine more DN's for Germany I see nothing wrong with boosting the British for a change, somehthing which many people think is not allowed, probably jealousy as Britain won the majority of battles against the vaunted HSF.
