Xinjiang area historic belong to Mongol Ordos tribe. After Mongol prince rebeled and The Qing emperor decided to devast them. The Mongol fled away. At that time fighting between tribes in Central Asia made Uyghurs the losser fled away from Tarjic and landed in the area. Under patronaged from Qing dynasty , the Yongzheng emperor allowed them settled in the empties land in replace the Mongol. So nothing in historic the land belong to Uighurs. Consider Tibet, UK in the name of British India send troops climbing up Himalaya mountain and seized Lhasa ,the Tibet city. Then proclain it belong to the Brit so on. China ata that time were in turmoil with internal warlord. Despite that it still objected to British behavior not recognise the Tibet new British colony. By the way ,the Russian was well aware that British would eat up Central Asia. So the Russian hastily sent battalion from Xinjiang to expel the Brit out of Tibet. The Brit without naval gun protection feared of Russain army then they retreated back to India. The story end up like this.
