Because US NGOs working overtime. Hopefully the Taiwanese people look at the Ukraine disaster and wake up.

DW interviewer has such a hard-on for war.
8
@Macskino Chechnya and Belarus are fine. Ukraine is turning to rubble.
6
@talkinghand122 Hong Kong is still standing. Cooler heads prevailed.
6
In an ideal world, the status quo would be sufficient. Unfortunately, the West has been trying to ukrainize Taiwan, and we’ve seen how awful that project turned out.
5
@TheMoArtis Belarus and Georgia are doing fine. Unlike Ukraine. Ain’t nobody trading places.
3
It’s just not the answer the interviewer wanted to hear. He wanted him to say Taiwan should go into all out war and defeat China. If Ukraine couldn’t beat Russia, what chance does Taiwan have against China?
3
@viperabyss yes, they are happy with status quo. Too bad the West is ukrainizing them.
3
@wokeaf1337 losing independence (that you never had) is not the same as literally dying.
2
@viperabyss what’s the exact percentage?
2
@josephlin8065 oh yeah? And how’d that last election go?
2
A large enough percent to humble the DPP is the previous election.
2
Ma shows wisdom that is glaringly missing in modern Taiwan politics. Taiwan has no chance militarily against China. If you go the route of a US proxy, you will be screwed over like Afghanistan and Ukraine.
1
@OnlineEnglish-wl5rp what year was that?
1
@UrbanHermit_withgrace the other half want him back.
1
And what makes them think Taiwan has any leverage at all to make demands of Beijing? That would be like Cuba making demands to Washington.
1
@josephlin8065 Ukraine disaster.
1
@tommohsien888 George W had low ratings, but Trump still won with the GOP. Low ratings aren’t a permanent fixture. Sentiments change over time. Which is why Tsai Ing-Wen got humbled in the 2022 elections.
1
@tommohsien888 what has been the difference?
1
@wokeaf1337 they still held an election in the Civil War. Thats how real democracies work.
1
@wokeaf1337 didn’t happen in the US.
1
@wokeaf1337 that’s not how democracy works. In your country, do they pause elections if someone is out of town?
1
@wokeaf1337 the people of the republics voted in a referendum.
1
@wokeaf1337 the Donbas republics also declared independence from Ukraine.
1
They can’t even win in Ukraine or Gaza. The Taiwanese don’t stand a chance as a proxy of the West.
1
@chrisc6015 in what way is it independent? Autonomous, perhaps.
1
Or maybe have a candidate that’s handpicked by a western NGO?
1
@wokeaf1337 I don’t know where your original comment went. I said Taiwan never had independence.
1
Man, this interviewer is so thirsty for the prospect of war. Every question is aimed at how to get to war.
1
He is not optimistic at all, he’s a realist. What other choice does Taiwan have? War?
1
@d.b.2215 weird how Russia can lose 500K but not do any kind of mobilization? Strange that 500k number happens to be the one Zelensky is asking to mobilize?
1
@talkinghand122 and yet, where is Hong Kong today?
1
@fernandoalegria4240 then what’s the other option?
1
@OnlineEnglish-wl5rp UK and Australia are worlds apart. Not the same at all.
1
@OnlineEnglish-wl5rp an “identity” pushed by western NGOs, like in Ukraine or HK, to the detriment of the people.
1
@OnlineEnglish-wl5rp they’d just blockade it or turn it into the surface of the moon. You watch too much Saving Private Ryan.
1
@nervechews6781 they are US proxies. And Taiwan should study the ill effects of Ukraine and Israel and choose their path wisely.
