Yeah; and what has Ireland achieved in the years since the Easter Rising? Nothing. Instead of being a member nation of one of the most powerful countries in the world, they ended up a debt ridden country.

Highway Phantom Yeah; better to be in a shameful national debt and achieve nothing over the past century. Wonderful.

Highway Phantom You fail to understand your history. You did not fight off the British, old chap; you were granted independence. The British wanted peace and so did the Irish. Had the British really wanted a war, they would have used aircraft and the newfangled tanks to bulldoze over the Irish. You should count your blessings. Or perhaps not, seeing as how Ireland is in such a sorry state today.
2
Highway Phantom You can continue to think what you wish, but it will not change the truth.

whatryewatchin There is no such nation as the 'Commonwealth of the Northern U.S.A.', sir. As I was saying, the Irish have managed to achieve very little in the past 100 years.

DEVILS CHILD Bite me!
2
Northern Ireland isn't part of Ireland and NEVER WAS. Ireland wasn't even a free state until the two countries partitioned.
1
whatryewatchin Oh, I knew that you were trying to bait me by calling Canada the 'Commonwealth of the Northern U.S.A.'; however, I am immune to such baiting, having had to deal with many trolls before.
1
theirishneilers Canada gained independence in 1867. And don't say 'Oh, you were still part of the British Empire' because we were proud to have British heritage and Canada is the first country to peacefully gain independence from Great Britain.

whatryewatchin Oy! My family history is Irish. I know full well what I am talking about.

360grant Thank you for your opinion.

Martina Murray In case you haven't realized, I am not British - although Great Britain is one hell of a lot better off than Ireland.
1
Trapp Atto Why do you care if I care?
1
theirishneilers Canada's economy is far larger than Ireland's. I actually like Ireland - but it would have done better to stay with Great Britain. Oh well; have it your way, then.
1
Trapat0 I have an Irish background. Isn't that usually enough to make one part of the 'Irish diaspora' that everyone is so fond of?
1
Trapat0 You are from Africa? Then why do you care about Ireland?
1
theirishneilers Okay, it seems I was wrong about the debt, but what does the G.D.P. have to do with it, then?
1
Martina Murray They weren't Irish if they were in the U.S.; they were American immigrants who had no intention of returning to Ireland.
1
Trapat0 You are not ethnic Irish and never shall be, so you should move along.
1
Trapat0 I am not a female, so that wouldn't work.
1
Martina Murray Exactly.
1
Trapp Atto No thanks.
1
Jimson O Beware pride - sometimes it is the deadliest of sins.
1
@precision2190 Yes. Why would I change?
1
@precision2190 Not really.
1
@precision2190 Figure it out for yourself.
1
@demonke7829 There was no such phase; I am entirely truthful and of sound mind.
