  1. I saw on another guy's channel -- the one who built a utility pole cabin -- he nailed some sort of metal hardware cloth strip into the log gaps on the inside, and then he used a tool, and mortar slid right off into the gap from a drywall hawk. Went quickly.

  2. And oh yeah, you mentioned using synthetic chinking (more expensive) and from my little bit of reading about it, mortar (cheap) is an outmoded chinking material (moisture damage to wood, stiff, less durable, etc.) and is used only for those who want an old authentic look. ☺️
