  1. I don't disagree with any of this. But what HAS happened in certain places is that the WEALTHY people left in response to the high taxes, leaving the not-so-wealthy to assume a greater share of the tax burden. For example, over a period of decades, the French government managed to chase out large numbers of wealthy people, and the middle class has remained in the country to assume the tax burden.

  2. I would happily accept a 25% national sales tax (in the US) in exchange for elimination of the federal income tax.
