I just like to know that there's an escape hatch (and preferably, several escape hatches), in case the situation in the US gets really bad; by "bad", I mean a tyrannical government, and/or a government that imposes confiscatory taxes.

@tinglestingles Yes, the N. Korean govt makes it nearly impossible; and the govt of the former Soviet Union made it very difficult; and I suppose the Nazis made it difficult to leave (back in the 1940's) but... for example... residents of Venezuela can still leave that country. But, to your point, I would certainly not wait until the govt made it impossible to leave; there's a lot of really bad stuff they'd do before they got to that point; and so I wouldn't wait until the last minute to leave. One interesting question here is whether or not the US govt would ever make it impossible to renounce US citizenship.... while at the same time taxing US citizens who are residing in foreign countries. Certainly, the far left would do such a thing if it ever got control of the US govt.
