That's not gonna age well
1
Yeah this video was crap. I guess this guy is there to promote his own stuff, but platforms like vrchat have much more interesting and higher quality experiences
1
Child's play? This can be quite useful in some business contexts. And build a virtual Vegas and the play gets a lot more serious. Having actually tried it, vr has quite impressive and satisfying experiences.
1
"metaverse colaborate with neurolink" metaverse is not an entity, it's a whole group of technologies and companies. You probably mean "Meta collaborate with neurolink", which makes more sense, as meta is a company. It's unlikely though, elon musk's attacks on meta make it seem like he has his own plans regarding a more technologically advanced metaverse of his own making.
1
@mbergamin16 Nobody likes facebook, for good reason. Vrchat does not belong to facebook. And it's had generally positive reviews until they recently implemented anticheat and got review bombed for it. I also left a negative review and I'm still of the opinion that it's incredible. The current review bombing goes to show how committed users are to it and how much they want to participate - the revolt is literally because we are not being allowed to participate through modding, and we want to.
1
@LEV1ATHYN You're very uninformed. Horizon - (by facebook/meta) is just one of various universes in the metaverse. So this is not about facebook, just like the smartphone is not about apple. and actually facebook has been quite successful in headset sales. They lose money because they are doing a very aggressive expansion - like amazon did to undercut the competition (and yes, amazon was losing money, and they had massive long term success from it). The public hates facebook, and for good reason. The public is mostly ignorant about the metaverse. Which, again, is not facebook.

rec room's metaverse has fornite
1
@Schmidtelpunkt Same can be said about the internet, and yet it's incredibly useful and can empower individuals who know how to use it.
1
Lol no it won't. And the wonderful reality around us includes a lot of technology, and among them is VR. It's not virtual vs real, in the future it is going to be increasingly common for them to merge through the use of AR.
1
True, it is worrying how misinformation might find a new base in this new technology, how the high amount of very personal information might be used by companies like facebook, and how people's freedom might be intentionally limited in this space where company's power is near absolute rather than being based on democratic principles. Recently, on vrchat's metaverse, that happened: the company, vrchat inc, made a decision that anticheat would be implemented into the platform. Users were not heard on the matter, many thousands protested in all sorts of ways, and even review bombed the heck out of it. But the company announced they would not change their decision. That sort of thing doesn't bode well for freedom in this new land.
1
Made good friends in vr, actually. Found it incomparably more capable of bringing people together than social media.
1
Etherium (the second biggest crypto) now uses less than 1% of what it used to. So it already doesn't use much electricity. And democratizing access to financial services can benefit people who haven't had access to financial services so far in empoverished countries. Besides, accessing the metaverse with full immersion requires the computational power of a gaming pc or of a console. It's something that people already have for their entertainment.
1
The metaverse is not about facebook. There's numerous companies in the space. Contrary to what Zuckerberg wants people to believe, his company does not own the metaverse and hopefully never will.
1
The metaverse is part of the realverse. Plus it's not one or the other. Building Building metaverse doesn't require stopping everything else.
1
lol
1
With useful things that you can use in vr.
1
That's because you dont have a clue
1
Lol but actually there are hugs in the metaverse. And there will be more hugs and more touch feedback as better hardware comes along. Regardless it's already a very noteworthy experience with the technology we have now.
1
damn lol actually VR and AR are a incredible technologies, and hardly will they go away. Especially in the case of AR it's already widespread and shows no signs of stopping.
1
Wtf
1
I think you are conflating 2 things: people intentionally spreading lies for political/personal gain vs reading a book and being transported to an entertaining story. In one you are being deceived, in the other you are not being deceived. The metaverse does not bring one away from reality in a sense of being lied to. Also, in the metaverse you interact with people not too differently from people who you're talking to or playing with face to face. That is not more alienating than face to face interactions.
1
Ok?
1
Contracts it? No. You'll have to explain, cause stating it out of the blue like that it seems plainly false. And there are regular people. Pretending they are under some sort of ideology or that they are more transhuman than some random bloke on the street is just a baseless character attack. And yeah his jacket. A hot topic. It's just a brand. Lazy oaf. And all the screen addicts are over at tiktok.
1
Artificial mind state is getting convinced that any of that biblical stories reflect reality when they are plainly contradicted by all available evidence. By the way, people have been pretending that Jesus will come, and has never happened, because the dude is dead. I understand you're in some kind of cult, but this is a very simple fact. Another simple fact is that people evolved, they were not created by some god. You were lied to. There's plenty of conmen in the world, the notion that you have been deceived should not be that hard to grasp either. Also it's not "mete verse" it's metaverse.
1
@felixnuwahid9879 because it's fun and interesting. People create the most incredible things.
1
why?
1
@perceivedvelocity9914 This video was not exactly the greatest. Plus many people are just ignorant and think metaverse means facebook. Again, actual surveys put the figure at 3 out of 4 being interested in vr.
1
@perceivedvelocity9914 People have been interested in this for a long time, and it's made its fair share of appearances in sci-fi. Companies have pushed this quite a few times, it's just that the technology (especially the computing power and internet speeds) weren't quite there yet. But now it's ripe for the taking. There's been estimates of up to a trillion dollars up for grabs in this space. That is a heck of a lot of money even for the biggest corporations. But as much of a gold mine as this can be, it also connects with people's long standing dreams about this subject and also their basic desires for entertainment, long distance communication, artistic expression, etc.
1
lol that's true. In the movie the zero theorem there's a part where the guy gets assaulted by ads exactly as you are describing.
1
And wait... what exactly is stupid about the metaverse?
1
IoT is very much a thing. Businesses just use it a lot more edge cases than regular people. And still, everyone has a virtual assistant on their phone, alexas are common, rombas are IoT devices, so is my car (and that's going to spread with the number of hybrid and electric car), oh right my fridge and TV and cable box are also IoT devices. You don't hear about it cause it's already seamlessly integrated all around you. It's likely that the same will happen with augmented reality.
1
I just couldn't help but watch this again years after I've watched it for the first time. This is moving. As is Eric - such humbleness and honesty. He's a rockstar to me.
1
@dougg1075 He obviously is. Perhaps you didn't notice, but people from 2000 years ago aren't walking around anymore. People also don't magically rise from the dead. It looks like you have been mistaking fables for reality. Luckily, there's a world out there where you can experience reality.
